Good to see you! Yes, I was skeptical and feel bad for it. We've all had some bad experiences helping someone only to find out later things weren't what they'd appeared. Maybe that's where that poster is coming from. Makes it bad for everyone that really is in a bad situation.

Hope things work out with your ID. It used to be that you could get a birth certificate on anyone. People did it often. Think they're trying to drive people over the brink. Hang in there. hf

So as of today I am officially homeless.

I won't bore you all with long sob stories.

About a year ago lost my job of twelve years, couldn't find new work, made some bad financial choices, and today I sit in the public library on my old laptop typing away as all my posessions lay in three small suitcases very close to where I am sitting.

I think this might possibly be the worst place to be homless, given the horrible heat.

So I have seventy-five cents to my name, am not sure where I'll be putting my head down to sleep tonight, and was wondering if anyone else out there has been in a similar prediciment.

I'll update my story here as I can. Maybe a few people will find it interesting.

Wutabi, Wish I would have known your Gramps. Sounds like a stand-up man.

To the poster screaming, "Scam! Scam!" you're going to be a shoe-in for trustee of the month once the FEMA camps are up and running. DHS facists love a good snitch - "If you see something, say something" - and you've got the stuff, boyo.

Seems to me there isn't a person on this thread that's an idiot. If OP is scamming, he's scamming. That shit doesn't fall on the people extending themselves from a posture of basic human kindness and empathy. Even if OP is a scamming bastard, and I don't believe he is, thank goodness the world hasn't smothered the compassion displayed by most on this thread.

I believe we are all responsible for taking actions (to the very best of our abilities) to uplift our fellow man. Once done, we take the results as they come. Win, lose, or draw. If I choose to extend myself to another and that person takes advantage of that, tough shit. I know from whence I sprung. My choice. Results? Out of my hands after the action.

In many states you will not qualify for food stamps if you are a single man with no dependents.

In some states you cannot even qualify for unemployment if you have no dependents.

In some states the Salvation Army will not take a homeless man or woman with a boy over the age of 12. (Because sexual perverts can stay at shelters)

In some states battered women shelters are full of illegals and they cannot kick them out because they cannot legally get jobs. So once the cops bring them to a shelter -- they can stay there forever with their kids. Free babysitting, free food....

People who have never been jobless, homeless, etc. really think that there is a lot more available to people than there actually is. Most people believe that there is some kind of "safety net" -- and sometimes there is not.

Yes, there are scammers. Certainly there are. But the huge reality is that for some people -- it is just bad luck. It is not lack of education. It is sometimes bad luck.

And that, my friend, believe it or not.....could happen to you too.

THE COMPANIES DYING TO FIND DRIVERS AS NO ONE LIKES TO BE AWAY FROM HOME FOR TOO LONG!
THEY PAY FOR YOUR TRAINING PLUS THEY GIVE YOU MONEY UPFRONT TO GET UP ON YOUR FEET!

CALL SOME COMPANIES AND THE ONLY CATCH IS DON'T FALL ASLEEP BEHIND THE WHEEL!

Re: Homeless in Dallas Texas
Just an update for those still following my story.

I've been in New York 3.5 weeks now, and my health is pretty good and it's nice that the weather is warming here despite an insane amount of rainfall.

I am pissed off at how difficult it is to try to re-establish my identity in a new state. When I left Texas, the only piece of ID I had was my current and valid texas driver's license. I knew I would need more than that to get a NY license, so I went to the local social security office, showed them my license, and within five days I had a replacement social security card at my new address.

So I went to the DMV with my license, ss card, a letter from the social security office with my new address on it, and mail from my former employer with my new address on it. I am then told that my license could not be expected because Texas does not have an "issue" date on their drivers license, and furthermore none of the ID I have--including license--is proof of date of birth. For that they want either a birth certificatte or a passport, the first of which i lost long ago, and the later of which I had never applied for. They would--the kind souls that they are (note sarcasm)accept my drivers license (but not as proof of dob) if i had a certifiedd driving record with my license. wtf?!?!

So I have mailed a form to the texas dmv along with their fee for a copy of my driving record and am now awaiting that.

But still, I have no birth certificatte to prove my date of birth, and in order to get that I have to send away a form, along a copy of my DL AND TWO letters from a government agency addressed to me, whcih i don't have, and a $45 fee, which i don't have either. So there's my current plight. The beuroacry is maddening sometimes.

I followed it well enough that you showed no proof of this act of kindness either. Your guy in the blue car couldn't sap a pic?

He DID post a pic.

Where is it? Where is the proof? Dates library and so on?

I SAW it. He posted it. If it's deleted, then good. I didn't want picture proof anyway, but he was good enough to post it. Others also saw it. If you'd read the entire thread, you'd know.

Re: Homeless in Dallas Texas

OP: I was homeless from May09-Dec30/2012. I lived in a tent way up in the bush until my dog died, then I moved into my car. In canada the welfare rate for shelter is 375$ for a person on medical disability. Here the people dont care how bad your health is, if you cant pay the price too goddamn bad. I didnt go to shelters, I took my showers at local pool showers. Here, if you're a coke head the government programs will get you indoors in your own place, give you money for food, etc. If you're not a druggie, and on your last bit of health, you'll get nothing. OP be very careful, I learned the hard and painful way about "the kindness of strangers".
