Anonymous Coward User ID: 37548997 United States 06/18/2013 11:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just an update for those still following my story. Quoting: homelessguy92 I've been in New York 3.5 weeks now, and my health is pretty good and it's nice that the weather is warming here despite an insane amount of rainfall. I am pissed off at how difficult it is to try to re-establish my identity in a new state. When I left Texas, the only piece of ID I had was my current and valid texas driver's license. I knew I would need more than that to get a NY license, so I went to the local social security office, showed them my license, and within five days I had a replacement social security card at my new address. So I went to the DMV with my license, ss card, a letter from the social security office with my new address on it, and mail from my former employer with my new address on it. I am then told that my license could not be expected because Texas does not have an "issue" date on their drivers license, and furthermore none of the ID I have--including license--is proof of date of birth. For that they want either a birth certificatte or a passport, the first of which i lost long ago, and the later of which I had never applied for. They would--the kind souls that they are (note sarcasm)accept my drivers license (but not as proof of dob) if i had a certifiedd driving record with my license. wtf?!?! So I have mailed a form to the texas dmv along with their fee for a copy of my driving record and am now awaiting that. But still, I have no birth certificatte to prove my date of birth, and in order to get that I have to send away a form, along a copy of my DL AND TWO letters from a government agency addressed to me, whcih i don't have, and a $45 fee, which i don't have either. So there's my current plight. The beuroacry is maddening sometimes. Try this site, OP. [link to www.vitalchek.com (secure)] I have used them before, and from what I remember I didn't have to have any 'letters'. Proof of ID was all that was needed. The probem is I have no credit card. And you have to have a credit card whose billing address and name MATCHES the record of the individual being requested. So no credit card, no vitalchek. I had looked at their website already. yea my son just graduated and cant get his birth certificate unless he has a state ID and you cant get a state ID without a birth certificate. TN law. So Im a little befuddled too. |

Just think how easy it would be for a terrorist to get away with getting proper ID if they didn't have all these hassles in place. You should be grateful. Also you don't need a license to live. There is such a thing as working under the table for cash, and finding a landlord who doesn't require a background check and other things. |

There is such a thing as working under the table for cash, and finding a landlord who doesn't require a background check and other things. I need a license if I want to purchase a car, register that car, get insurance and drive in this state. I need that ID to open a savings/checking account. And I understand that ther should be some things to make it difficult to get an ID...BUT I have been driving for 25 years, I have a SS card and #. SURELY in this day and age this can be proven without forcing a person in distress to jump through hoops. |
Vision Thing User ID: 41824700 United States 06/18/2013 12:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I feel for you with the ID mess you're in, I had a similar situation a year or two ago, I was unemployed and dealing with the unemployment bureaucracy. They had several programs I was interested in, like education opportunities and support for business startups, but I had to have a social security card. Mine had been stolen 30 (35?) years previously and I had never needed it for anything until then. But my name on my SS card/account was a nickname - I was 14 and had never used my formal given name for anything up to that point, it was the seventies and things were a lot different then. And that nickname had never been used for anything else legally except SS. So I had to clear that up to get a new SS card, but my name on my birth certificate had been spelled wrong, it had always been wrong, I have never spelled my name legally the way it was spelled on my birth certificate because that's not how it's spelled. So I had to get my birth certificate corrected, in another state, in order to do so I had to PHYSICALLY MAIL them my passport, which was my only form of ID. So I had to get a state ID card, so that I wouldn't be without ID while my passport was in limbo, and in case it got lost. Cost me about 135.00 and it took way too long for me to take advantage of any of the state programs I was interested in. the only good thing was that it all needed to get sorted eventually and I was glad I dealt with that red tape while I wasn't working cause it was really a big fucking hassle and super frustrating. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5574349 I won't bore you all with long sob stories. About a year ago lost my job of twelve years, couldn't find new work, made some bad financial choices, and today I sit in the public library on my old laptop typing away as all my posessions lay in three small suitcases very close to where I am sitting. I think this might possibly be the worst place to be homless, given the horrible heat. So I have seventy-five cents to my name, am not sure where I'll be putting my head down to sleep tonight, and was wondering if anyone else out there has been in a similar prediciment. I'll update my story here as I can. Maybe a few people will find it interesting. Hello friend, if you would like I can bring you food and water for several days! I live close to dallas and would not mind driving out to help an unfortunate soul. If you want to get in contact, email me at [email protected] I haven't even gotten past two post on this thread yet. I would present you a job if you were on this side of the world. |

Why do you think all the sports teams stay away from Dallas even though they call themselves Dallas Blah Blah... It's a dying city and there is no hope for homeless there. Now Forth Worth is the polar opposite right now. There is hiring going on left and right. Anyone can find a descent paying job here and food is everywhere. Money makes a human eh brief? You fucking scum bag. Ok, bore me with some details...in the land of opportunity a white man that doesn't have a pot to piss in and claims to be drug free is homeless? Eh maybe he's really ugly and stinky? Assuming no one here is trolling, there's a million reasons how someone could end up homeless, jobless, penniless. Speaking of jobs, many companies deliberately discriminate against job hunters for a wide variety of reason such as age, etc., If you think everything is above board and honest with corporate hiring practices, you're delusional. This is especially true once you reach a certain age. Nobody wants anything to do with you. They don't like older [say 40-plus,certainly 50 plus] employees. True That!! And doesn't matter you experience or capability. |
