Google's Plan To Take Over The World
There have been threads about Google before. For years.
But now the concern about its politics which was mainly voiced by some lone voices ranting in a desert, seems to have gone mainstream. The title, which could in other times have been called an expression of paranoia, is all the more telling...

The Businessinsider, no less, has this article on its page.

"Google's Plan To Take Over The World

Google's big keynote at its I/O developers conference this week wore me out.

Not because it lasted a grueling three hours and fifty minutes, but because of what was announced. With every new product update, every new feature, every new virtual service, it became more and more clear that Google isn't just a search company that makes loads of cash by showing you ads. It's creeping into every aspect of our digital, physical, and private lives at an exponential rate.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it.

Google isn't just the backbone of the Internet anymore. It's rapidly becoming the backbone of your entire life, all thanks to data you're voluntarily giving up to a private company based on your Web searches, photos, Gmail messages, and more.

After spending three days at I/O this week, it became more apparent than ever that unless millions (billions?) of people suddenly change their mind and start using alternative tech tools, or unless the government steps in waving the anti-trust banner, our lives, our history, and our personal wealth could be managed by one company –– Google.

It's the most apparent in Google Now, a voice-powered personal assistant that launched on Android phones last year. At I/O, it became even more clear that Google no longer sees search as returning a list of 10 or 20 relevant links when you type in a query. Google Now is much more than that. It's the embodiment of that geeky dream of a "Star Trek Computer," an intelligent machine that understands natural language and real-world context to assist you before you even know you need assistance.

Google Now scans your email and knows when your Amazon package is arriving. It knows what sports scores to show you based on the teams you've searched for. It knows what stock prices to show you based on the companies you search for. It scans your calendar and reminds you when to leave to make your appointment on time. And all that data is delivered to you without you having to ask."

This should get through to you, the reader.

It's not like this is something out of a blue sky either. Years ago Google's plans for building a huge data center on the banks of the Platte river in Montana for housing its servers was announced, as well as its intention to make go all it's users' internet activities through them... but this kind of fizzled out without any residual noise.

Have been concerned by this for quite some time [over a year now?]. Let's not forget the google brain that the tech guys are working on in their lab. This brain that tries to simulate a human brain. And so they unleashed this brain for the first time on the internet. Its first search? Cats.

I use Google search engine every day. I use Google Chrome browser everyday. And I have an android phone -- everyday. That freaks me out. I refuse to use Google 'Now'. Don't use gmail as my primary email addy. Gotta minimise the use of Google. Yes, i don't have anything to hide. But i value my privacy.

Google brain ? We should have known they wouldn't stop at Google Glass, eh ? Thks for the link.

Yes, don't we all use Google by now, for almost anything except wiping our behinds. What's worrying, as they say in the article, is that just one company - make it a "conglomerate" of sorts, within 20 or 50 years or so) would in fact control almost all of our lives.

Combine this with the attempts to "own" genes or parts of the human genome (whether artificial or not) from the part of certain companies and you can perhaps have a vague idea where all of this could be going within, say 50 years, maybe less...

You yourself might not be there anymore unless you are still young now, but our children, and their children, will have to contend with this.

You didn't ? You should have, because Bing is MS's standard search engine now and has been for a few years. It's what you get as default with IE now I think.

Anyway... the author of the article is suggesting something which is very difficult for the normal internet user... make themselves independent of Google, against all efforts done by Google to the contrary....
