1. Angelina Jolie is rightfully WAY hotter than Jennifer Aniston. While not particularly talented in terms of acting, in her prime Jolie was considered to be one of the sexiest, craziest, most memorable stars in Hollywood history, in fact.
Whereas Aniston is basically Merryl Streep minus the major dramatic talent (she was a pretty good sitcom actress in her heyday, to be fair to her)
2. Brad Pitt is turning 50 soon. Midlife crisis. If only subconsciously, he must feel like he "wasted" almost 10 years of his best years on Aniston when he could have had Jolie in her best years instead. Life with most regrets, it's not exactly rational in nature. It's probably compounded by the fact Jolie gave him the big happy multi-ethnic family that Aniston absolutely refused to give him, so even though Pitt intellectually knows that Jolie in her 20's was way too crazy and wild to have children with, irrationally he still feels retroactive resentment toward Aniston.
3. Hollywood only amplifies the crazy factor in this little triangle.
