The lamp wasn’t the problem, however. Troopers noticed a handgun in the vehicle. The weapon was legally registered to Dean, but upon further inspection, the gun was noted to have 9 rounds as opposed to 7 – a violation of the SAFE Act. He was charged with ‘Unlawful possession of certain ammunition feeding devices’, and faced a possible 6 months in jail. For two extra bullets. [link to menrec.com]

If the person was legally licensed to have the weapon, that's all that should have occurred. No search, or counting of bullets, was warranted. Even if it was warranted, the police should have just informed the person that he should only be carrying so many bullets in the gun. To arrest and try prosecution for such a silly issue is beyond reasos. If this is what we're paying police for, we have become a police state. These rules and laws are arbitrary, partisan, and need to be repealed.
