I started saving the 1 mb and 10 mb stratospheric gph and temp from ecmwf analysis website.

Here it is.

I have no problem understanding the temperature and geopotential height maps.

It's the potential vorticity maps that are more difficult to understand.

And yet i do believe this map is very important to understand the climate extremes happening these last years.

So what does this map represent?

Above is the potential vorticity 380k isentropic surface map.

Is this wind speed latent heat or pressure? How do i have to read this map? They have several other maps going to 1000 k.
