His reputation in the Navy, before being shot down was that ... and except for who is daddy was, first a senior Admiral and then later Chief of Naval Operations, he would probably have been washed out of flight school, and then later washed out of being a naval aviator because of both his mental issues and his very poor flying skills ("Crash McCain" was a nickname). Yep ... he also should have been Court Martialed for what happened on the Forestal and was roundly blamed by the ships crew (separate from the naval aviator group) for the entire fiasco ... which was caused by his vindictive behavior towards one of his fellow aviators. McCain has never seen a potential War that he didn't want OTHERS Americans go fight in ... he has a fascination with getting the US involved in Wars in fact. It seems to be his "calling" in life in fact. That guy can't retire from the Senate early enough for me. |
