CNN wants parents to stop "gender stereotypes" that define girls as girls and boys as boys.
If you read the full article, the author is claiming that in order to save children from hypersexualization in a patriarchal society, parents should stop stimulating boys being boys and girls being girls.

(CNN) -- When the rocket scientist Yvonne Brill died in March, The New York Times celebrated her as the maker of a "mean beef stroganoff" and "the world's best mother." When my 4-year-old daughter, Ellie, a wildly creative and interesting girl, finished a year of preschool last week, her teachers gave her an award for being the best dressed.

A few years ago at my son's preschool camp award ceremony, I sat silently as well-meaning counselors called each child forward. Girls: best hair, best clothes, best friend, best helper and best artist. Boys: best runner, best climber, best builder and best thrower. My son won best soccer player. In general, girls received awards for their personalities and appearance and boys for their actions and physical attributes.

It was similar at my daughter's ceremony, where the teacher told us that all the children were so excited to see what award they would receive; it had obviously been built up as a big deal. The gender disparity was subtle but present.

A boy received best engineer. A girl got best friend. Another girl was the best helper, and another most compassionate. A boy received best break dancer. A girl was named most athletic, and the teacher told us how when all the class raced around the track this girl "beat everyone! Even the boys!" And then my daughter got her certificate, showing her in a funky orange sweater, tight pants, and holding a bowling ball. Her award -- best dressed.

Many decades after the feminist movement of the 1960s, why are we still stuck in this gender-norming rut?

(...)The teenage years with the new dangers of sex, alcohol, eating disorders and more will arrive before we know it. I can't save her from all of this, and anyway we buy into purity culture (the notion that only a father's constant surveillance can save our daughters) at our peril and the peril of our daughters. Our daughters need to be strong, not closeted and coddled. We have to arm them with the tools to question, resist and change our patriarchal culture(...)

I pretty much doubt that "David M. Perry" is the author's real name, and I doubt even more that he's even married, because he looks like a fag.

Re: CNN wants parents to stop "gender stereotypes" that define girls as girls and boys as boys.
So according to CNN the "solution" to save children from hypersexualization is to prevent boys from being boyish and girls from being girlies.

That sounds like a vicious and clever way of demonizing heterosexuality and promoting trangenderism-homosexuality.

The author of the article is a total fag. So sick and tired of all the homos trying to push their fag agenda on the rest of us.

Keep to yourselves and leave the rest of us alone, and we'll do the same.

Doesn't god discriminate girls vs boys with penises and vaginas?

I hate to keep saying this because I feel like a broken record, but you shouldn't be resisting nature like this or God is going to put you over a table.

How ridiculous - the things people will waste time complaining about. it's mindboggling
Goodbye, halcyon days...

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

And besides, they have to give all those athletic awards to the boys if they are ... better athletes.

This is pushing for equality of results not of opportunity. It's not that there's "hypersexualization" going on, but that the sexes are not the same.

Boys naturally want things like trucks, not fluffy dolls. I can't speak from experience about girls because I have sons not daughters, but I've heard they tend to gravitate to girl stuff.

Pushing for equality of results always leads to big bureaucracy. Now we have NCLB and now Common Core, all built on the excuse that ALL children can have the same results.

So if the best break dancer is a boy, do we give the award to a girl to give her an advantage?

Anyway schools are all about being like girls now. Boys are at a huge disadvantage.

For one example, now you don't just get in trouble if you can't sit very still in a small square on the floor, even in kindergarten. (Boys naturally have much more trouble with this requirement than girls.) You are on a path to an ADHD "diagnosis" from the school and pressure to drug your child.

Another example: I went to school to see why my older son had done poorly on his 9th grade English midterm. Well the big reading comprehension question required them to note subtle allusions to the weight and body image issues that girls are having at that age. Something that every girl in the room will see immediately but the less socially aware boys will be likely to miss altogether. And this exam was conveniently one that they must do well on to get into Honors English next year. Bet that most of Honors English will "just happen" to be girls!
