The police over here are actually really good, and I'm at the opposite end of the country from London. Scotland's not a bad place to live now, the police don't bother with stupid stuff like weed (i had them at the door a few weeks ago about loud music, they ignored the quarter sitting on the table and politely asked me to quiet down haha) and focus on real violent crimes. There's always beat police kicking around but only bother you if you're acting dodgy.

To be honest, gun culture is what puts me off visiting the usa, which is sad because most Americans I have met are lovely. At least I can run like Fuck from a blade!

I have a friend who is dual US/UK citizen, spends time in both and says the same, and also says the UK cant compare with Texas for freedoms.

I think the British gun laws are too restrictive at the moment. I don't think there should be a free-for-all, but sensible, non-kneejerk laws would be nice. Can't see it happening though, because it's political poison.

Only the police and military to be armed, they are the forces that keep the status quo in power and wealth for generations to come, and these forces are the ones that eliminate any competiton for the status qup, whether it be domestically or when they go in the Middle East and conquer the resources instead of having to pay 'dictaors' for it.

when i grew up, EVERYONE's father had a gun. but, you knew you better leave it alone because, duh, guns are dangerous.

one thing that happened is a lot of people i know had their guns stolen (guns for hunting). so, they either didn't get new ones or locked the replacements up. my father had already given up hunting and gotten rid of his guns... since back then no one imagined they'd ever be hard to replace as long as you could come up with the money.
