This guy was a main-stream Dr. who had never treated patients and did not have authority to treat patients as he was a gut surgeon. He colluded with an ambulance chasing lawyer to do some research to find a link between the MMR vaccine and autism. He took $800000 in undeclared money from the lawyer who was preparing to sue the vaccine manufacturers for millions if only the good Dr. could find some damage done by the vaccine. And what do you know? Wakefield found a possible link. He had to fraudulently fudge the numbers and lie his ass off, but the required results were obtained.

He had also patented his own vaccine that he planned on marketing as soon as the lawyer raked the MMR manufacturer over the coals so that the MMR would be withdrawn and the market would be open for Mr. Wakefield's vaccine. He also developed a test kid he planned to market to find his phoney-baloney "cause" of autism in patients. He was going to market that too.

He would become fabulously wealthy and the lawyer would become fabulously wealthy and all it would take is to commit scientific fraud and lie like a rug while endangering a whole generation of children, but what's a bunch of sick kids compared to Millions $$$$$?

He's a main-stream Dr. who ranks as the worst fraud in the last century.

I have no need to prove vaccine injuries, because I too was ignorant about it until my own son had his reaction and now I know the risks. You could not convince me they are 100% safe. He got 6 shots at one time when he was 2 months old. That night his leg swole up huge and I held him all night while he cried and had seizures. We had to get a catscan and an MRI done on him. He still has a circular scar on his leg 3 yrs later. And I have all the paperwork to prove it.

He was confirmed to be injured and killed by his Hep B shot. Hep B is only a threat to babies if mom has it, yet every baby is given the shot- what a shame.

The GOV has a vaccine payout fund where the have paid families whose kids became autistic after a shot. So if there is no connection why would they even pay out?

The vaccine court is there for a good reason and requires that the injured provide 50% plus a feather to be awarded their case.
No autism case has ever been awarded though they have tried and failed miserably with crank "experts" whose testimony is not allowed as their credentials have been found laughably lacking.
The lawyers are licking their chops but they can't seem to make a case and find someone who isn't a crackpot to support it. They try, though.

I have great sympathy for autistic people. I merely think fraudulently blaming vaccines (or evil spirits, or miasma) isn't being very helpful to these people.

Why should vaccines pay for something they didn't cause?
There are other sources of help for these people, but I don't believe a group should pay for a tragedy they had nothing to do with.

VAERS is not a diagnostic tool. Any nutjob can report anything they want and in it goes into the database.
Healthcare providers are encouraged to report any and all subsequent adverse events even if they obviously have no connection to the vaccine. The epidemiologist will sort the wheat from the chaff as they analyse for possible patterns.
That is why you have a death following a Gardasil vaccination reported when the cause of death was... the girl fell down a well and broke her neck.

Any "researcher" who is using VAERS data alone in their research can be promptly ignored as an imbecile or an agenda driven crank. There is no diagnostic data in VAERS.

You left out the "Petitioners alleged' part. The court did not make that finding, Ryan's lawyer made that allegation, as his first attempt.

The lawyer finally changed the reason the award should be given to:
"On June 9, 2011, respondent filed a supplemental report pursuant to Vaccine Rule
4(c) stating it was respondent’s view that Ryan suffered a Table injury under the Vaccine
Act – namely, an encephalitis within five to fifteen days following receipt of the
December 19, 2003 MMR vaccine, see 42 C.F.R. § 100.3(a)(III)(B), and that this case is appropriate for compensation under the terms of the Vaccine Program. "

That was the final reason Ryan's lawyer came up with to win the award since the ASD wouldn't fly.
You see where he states that this reason "is appropriate for compensation under the terms of the Vaccine Program."
Because the other allegations were not appropriate for compensation. He was going to lose if he kept us the ASD tack and he knew it. He'd have to prove the kid had autism, which he didn't; and that the vaccine caused it, which there is no evidence for and in fact, now there is plenty of evidence against.
He was awarded for encephalitis, not autism.

Can you not see the temporal progression of the case?

Both are very, very rare but are recognised as at least plausible and since it is just 50% and a feather, they got the award.

My brother and I got measles at the same time back in the stone age and I had a normal, bad case... he went to the hospital and nearly died.

This is a play on words here, encephalopathy is any disease in which the functioning of the brain is affected by some agent or condition. Autism is considered a mental condition.
