It's no good putting the phone down on them because it is a part automated system that will keep calling you again, and again and again until you actually speak with someone. And all that will do is stop one company calling you, tomorrow it will be someone else. So without further ado let me introduce you to the TPS. It free, only takes a couple of minutes, and it works. [link to www.tpsonline.org.uk] Please note (A) You need a valid e-mail address. (B) There are commercial companies that charge a fee for doing the same thing. The TPS is the official central register. Welcome We are the Telephone Preference Service The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a free service. It is the official central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales or marketing calls. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so. Organisations with which you have an ongoing relationship, for example those who regard you as a customer, (or in the case of charities - a donor) may well gather your consent during the early stages of your relationship with them and will therefore be entitled to call you even if your number is registered on TPS, unless you have previously told them specifically that you object to them calling you for marketing purposes. The TPS can accept the registration of mobile telephone numbers, however it is important to note that this will prevent the receipt of marketing voice calls but not SMS (text) messages. If you wish to stop receiving SMS marketing messages, please send an 'opt-out' request to the company involved. As TPS registration only prevents marketing calls, organisations will still be able to call you for the purposes of genuine market research. There is a free registration service in the US that does the same thing. Though I suppose that the details might vary from state to state. I'm hoping that others can add the relevant information for their state. Last Edited by Judethz on 06/02/2013 02:12 PM |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 40728679 Australia 06/02/2013 02:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I had a power company (that I was with 5 years ago) keep calling me up around bill time trying to win me back with the promise of cheaper bills. They only ended up pissing me off. Telling them to F**K OFF and hanging up resulted in them calling back, sometimes in ten minutes, sometimes the next day. I decided to mess with them. I have selective call forward as a function on my phone system. I selectively forward there telemarketing number to there local office. My calls, including the forwarding etc. are all free so I'm not out of pocket at all. I'd love to see the look on there face when they call, the thought amuses me somewhat. |

Smith and Smith how many I direct your call. Have to remember the lists they use are purchased lists, you need removed from the list that is being sold, this will do that. I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw. We must all realize a sink a chair and a pillow are all luxuries of home and a soldiers helmet takes the place of all three. |

Quoting: Chrit Back in the late 70s when I lived in a big apartment complex in Berkley that was mostly for students I was allocated a phone number that used to belong to a take out pizza place. I had a girlfriend with a real sexy voice and sometimes I'd pass the handset over to her. By the time she finished taking their order she had them drooling...and it wasn't just over the pizza toppings either. |

I want them to call me everyday because I thoroughly enjoy releasing my end-of-day frustrations out on them with the foulest, filthiest language I can muster. It's the BEST stress reliever ever invented by man! Those telemarketers are doing me a great service, and it's FOR FREE!!! |

The TPS is for the UK so what works over here is not the same as in the USA. If call block works for you then great. Like I said I did have Caller ID once which also worked pretty well. The other big give away was that it flagged when no return number was give, which is a red flag that someone is calling you from a call center. |

Now THAT WORKS! Quoting: SuperManny call blocker? dude, you're missing out on a SHITLOAD of fun with these assholes! You could sit there and have a nice conversation about how much you enjoy licking your dog's asshole. Then you can fart in the phone a few times and ask them to rate your fart. Then go into the bathroom and ask them if they would like to hear you flush the toilet, then stick the phone near the toilet and flush it at least 5 or 6 times, and then be sure to ask them how much they enjoyed it. Give them another fart for good measure. Then you could bring up one of those free porn websites and play a video of two gay guys having sex and play it over the phone for at least 10 minutes. If they haven't hung up by then, then play some the nastiest gansta rap with the filthiest language until they can't take it anymore. I can't BELIEVE you would let such a grand opportunity for FREE entertainment pass you by like this! |
