I feel a need to connect with Ocean energies periodically. Not to swim or surf but to just be in the presence and on the sand. I want to look to the horizon and just see endless water and waves. The rougher the better.

My Wife, of course, has zero interest in this...almost as if my peace of mind is some sort of vague threat.

Sad.

sounds like a bumpy ride there. hope you get the ocean you need.

Lots of people live off of $25K or less per year. What would you consider a comfortable amount of money to live on yearly?

I think I could live comfortably off of $75,000 a year without any problems.

That is totally relative to where you are living.

Ha, ha, ha........YOU can't live off 80,000 a year?

My husband & I used to laugh at the postal employees who said they couldn't live on $50,000 a year & we were living on less than $10,000 a year.

We're married, still have a child living at home (now 18) & her boyfriend hangs out quite a bit here & we're living on $28k per year.

I'm flabbergasted when people make statements like that.

Exactly.
75K isn't exactly paycheck to paycheck....but you aren't going to be saving much in the NY/NJ/CT area with that salary.

Re: What would you consider a comfortable amount of money to live on yearly?
I just sat down and did a really rough estimate and came up with $2500/month for everything and that's only $300 for food.

I don't live outside my means either. No bars, no drinking at all and no drugs. That's also $0 for clothes and work boots (3 months tops for $200 boots)

It just takes a lot to live.

...but that's the point right?

OP said a COMFORTABLE AMOUNT.....not "SUBSISTENCE/EXISTENCE" or a "GETTING BY" amount for a year.

It's about living COMFORTABLY.

...and comfort is also relative to what conditions of life you are used to living in.

We live in Central Iowa.....We have 1 minivan (2007), 1 car (2001), 1 full sized truck (1996) & a fifth wheel camper (1995)......

We are paying for our house that was built in 1870.

Hubby works full time & I work part time as well as go to school part time.

Full time wife & mom.......

Ty for the response.

As for the OP, I would need $45k a year to live comfortably, assuming somewhere in the midwest. If I were fortunate enough to not have to own a car, I'd be comfortable with $30k a year. Cars are ridiculously expensive to own, even a used one that's all paid off...insurance, gas, wear and tear and maybe even a bad accident. Fuck automobiles.
