"Disaster Drill" tomorrow (June 5th, 2013) at Denver International Airport?
Just saw a 15sec clip on local Fox News in Denver. They said to "expect black helicopters"? Ill look for a stinky linky!

EDIT: Drill begins at DIA. 150 "patients"/actors. Replicating a small tornado hitting Denver (perfectly reasonable exercize)

Just an odd story on local news. They just barely mentioned the drill like they don't want people to know.

Here's another blurb about the upcoming disaster drill. Apparently it's a STATEWIDE emergency disaster drill and several state and national agencies will be participating.

The following was posted June 4, 2013 on the University of Colorado (UC) Health News website.

"MCR will take part in statewide emergency drill Wednesday"

Medical Center of the Rockies [MCR] in Loveland will be taking part in a statewide emergency disaster drill on Wednesday morning.

The disaster scenario is a tornado that strikes a small city. Eleven Front Range hospitals will be taking part in the drill in addition to several state and national agencies.

OP, here's another report about the emergency disaster drill. This report was posted May 16th on the CBS Channel 4 Denver TV station website and it is written in the past tense as though the drill already occurred on Wednesday, May 15th.

"Full-Scale Disaster Drill Uses DIA As Evacuation Site"

Ambulances, medical helicopters, and Black Hawks with the National Guard were all taking part in a disaster drill at Denver International Airport called a full-scale Federal Coordinating Center, or FCC.

The Federal Coordinating Center exercise simulated a tornado disaster. In a real disaster, DIA would become an evacuation site that could take in victims from around the world.

The exercise was a major test of the National Disaster Medical System, or NDMS, under the umbrella of DHS.

Emergency service agencies from all over the Front Range partnered with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Eastern Colorado Health Care System for the exercise.

Re: "Disaster Drill" tomorrow (June 5th, 2013) at Denver International Airport?
During system activation, the [Federal Coordinating Center] FCC coordinates the reception and distribution of patients being evacuated to the area.

An FCC is managed by the Department of Homeland Security [National Disaster Medical System] NDMS and may be activated in times of federally declared national or international emergencies to coordinate definitive medical care of evacuees from the emergency area to the FCC’s assigned area.

The most recent activation of the FCC system involved the Tampa and Atlanta VA Medical Facilities to support the evacuees from Haiti following the earthquake in January 2010.

There are a total of 72 Federal Coordinating Centers: 32 are controlled by the U.S. Department of Defense and 40 are controlled by the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

Re: "Disaster Drill" tomorrow (June 5th, 2013) at Denver International Airport?
Thread: "Disaster Drill" tomorrow (June 5th, 2013) at Denver International Airport?

Didn't even see this yesterday but it was just on my local news.

Here is the report on the news: A big disaster drill ACROSS Denver this morning. This is how the first part looked at Denver International Airport when military helicopters flew patients to area hospitals. Don't worry, this was all an exercise (chuckles) to that simulates the evacuation and treatments of victims to southern Wyoming supposing there was a tornado that hit and destroyed local hospitals.

The drill is to test the national disaster medical system. "Every year we do this," Peggy Kearns, Incident Commander, "we find different things we need to work on, to make it a smoother process so that if it ever does happen, we're ready to do it smoothly, efficiently and get the people where they need to go."

More than 300 people and 20 agencies including 11 hospitals are participating in this MASSIVE drill. Probably a little alarming to the passengers if they didn't know what was going on at DIA, right (lots of chuckles). "Just imagine seeing all that military stuff flying in, lol, but again, just a test."

It was just a short blurp on the news, the anchors all took it very light hearted and thought it was the funniest thing. That part that didn't make sense to me was; the military flew patients to area hospitals because a TORNADO destroyed the local hospitals. Then why were they flying them to the hospitals in the first place if they were destroyed??

The other thing, that large of a tornado in Denver? We get F0 to F2's here, no biggie. According to our records, the largest Tornado in the Denver Area was an F3 in 2008 that caused 78 injuries and 1 deaths. Denver, Colorado is relatively safe from tornadoes.

I know they need drills to practice but to use the excuse of a tornado in Denver that was so large they needed to evacuate people to southern Wyoming...that is fishing!!!
