Our one dog got a lump on her back - up near her neck where she gets shots - took her to vet - cancer.

We opted to have them try to remove it. The Dr said it is documented that the site of vaccines can give cancer to cats, and although not documented yet for dogs, she said she was pretty sure it was happening at some level.

Luckily, after taking out the lump (including scraping cancer off her spine!), the dr said all the edges were clear and that she thinks she had gotten everything.

This was about 3 years ago, and the now 7-yr old is still going strong.

I'm sure there is some link. We've told our regular vet, and although he thinks we're overreacting, understands what we've seen, so he's willing to do whatever we want.

One thing is to not have the same spot on the dog get the shots - that seems to increase the risk, so we move ours around.

We haven't had any other problems (have 2 other dogs).

This is definitely something to keep an eye on for, though.

Sorry to hear.

Oh, FYI - in case you're thinking of suing/whatever, even if you win, the law considers your pet property, so if someone injures/kills/destroys your pet it is looked at as if they destroyed your property. The most you will get is the value of the dog - so whatever you paid for it.

It sucks, I know. I looked into the same thing when we were going through this.

If the animal is only considered "property" ....why does property need vaccinated?
