Well, not that I condone or participate in the behavior you've described (nor is this my defending it) I would like to try to share my take on it, afterall you asked. I do not claim that this is spot on truth or fact, just merely my views on the question posed and my observations of the modern society we've found ourselves.

You have to look at it from the perspective of the young man to really start to get a handle on it, I think.

For at least 2 generations, young men have been told repeatedly that women don't need them for anything. In past generations a man could feel like a man by simply being a good husband and father and holding down a job. These days, every fem-nazi screams how they don't need men for anything to anyone that will listen to them. To make matters worse, when this is stated before an audience, they are greeted with applause and comments of, "She's such a strong woman!" and such.

There are no "man jobs" any longer. Women have invaded EVERY position where a man could use his career to feel more like a man. Including police, fire department and military.

So, here they are with nothing to cement their masculine identity ... can't focus on career, can't focus on family because neither are respected any longer. Not to mention the double standards. "What double standards?!?" you might ask? Well, for example; If a woman does not work, stays home and cares for the children while the man works, she's "noble" and "doing the hardest job in existence", yet if a man is the homemaker and the wife works, then HE is a "lazy bum". How is it when a woman does it, it's "such a hard job!" but for the man, it's "laziness"? Double standards.

This lays the groundwork for the mentality. Then factor in that more than half of marriages end up in divorce, followed by 2 decades of their adult life draining a substantial portion their income for child support and alimony. Why would a young man even want to take the risk? There is no gain, at least from a societal view, anyway. I mean, let's be real here, were it not for child support and alimony, women would be more inclined to stick it out and honor the vows they made. Since they can still take half his income if things aren't as perfect as she'd like, what does she have to lose by taking the easy path and just walking away from the marriage when things start to require effort? (but they don't need men for anything, right? So, why is it so important for them to suck the man's income dry for 2 decades if the man is so unneeded? Seems no one really considers this.)

There is nothing left for a young man to cling to to become a man other than risk, pain and loss ... is it really any wonder why they don't want to grow up? Then factor in that there seems to be an endless supply of easy sex, allowing them to still fill the basic primal urge that would at least cause a physiological push to seek and maintain a family.


So, here we are with no physical incentive, no psychological incentive and nothing but risk of serious loss.

Why would these young men today even bother?


Now as a disclaimer, I'm not young any longer and was raised with some seriously old school values when it comes to monogamy and family. So, these are not my own personal insights based on my own experiences, merely observations of the world my now young adult son is being forced to make his way into.

I pity this generation, I really do.
