Snowden said that according to unverified documents seen by the Post, the NSA had been hacking computers in Hong Kong and on the mainland since 2009. None of the documents revealed any information about Chinese military systems, he said.

Maybe the only reason he is alive now is because of what he could do, he collected a lot more than what has been made public.

In his interview there were many veiled threats, that he could have done this or that, read the president's emails, didn't want to release anything that could harm people etc. He has more, a lot more...

They likely know by now what he has and what he can do, and if he is as smart as many think he is, he has that evidence and information distributed among people who could release all of it if something happens to him.
