Please don't assume for me. Those people are in a toxic place, that just got worse. Exposure to this stuff could have lasting effects. Not only are they miles from a sinkhole that could really condemn the area, they now have chemicals in the air. This is scary. It makes me sad for the people that live there, it does not make me giddy.

There have been plans to build a new highway that is well away from the salt dome. The sinkhole was showing interesting seismic behavior yesterday. I am interested to find out what caused this explosion. Do wonder if the pipelines they mention are some of those pipeline that go through Bayou Corne.

Nobody wants bad things to happen. But when they do, we just want as much up-to-date information as possible. You can't rely on the mainstream media to provide the necessary facts. If there are toxic chemicals in the air and spreading across the country, we need to know.

Very Good! You are one of the few that truly 'sees' the bigger picture

While I don't completely discount what you say, I have to say that my interactions with people these days leads me to believe that so many are just plain ignorant - increasingly so - that it is not a suprise thse things are happening. If they can't get ONE order right at a fast-food chain, how is anyone supposed to get things right at a nuclear or chemical plant. There isn't much differene in awareness and intelligence between your average McDonalds' worker or nuclear plant worker anymore. In addition, there is growing apathy.

We also have been in need of funding for infrastructure repairs etc., and Obama has succeeded in bankrupting or crippling most communities. Combine that with the fact that our college grads are graduating with no skills that are helpful to maintain the nation's infrasture, and you've got the perfect storm.

John Ratzenberger warned years ago that without plumbers, electricians and other skilled laborers, (plus engineers) we would collapse.

I think for the most part we are living in limbo waiting for the other shoe to drop. Waiting for an event to wake people up to the true calamity that is being forced upon... we live on the edge of a precipice everyday.

Whether you are religious and waiting for the end of the world or the Second Coming, most of us are pretty damn sick and tired of the way this world is going.

I think when a major catastrophe happens, we secretly hope that we are closer to escaping a world that, for many of us, has turned into a place we despise. I think that translates as giddiness for tragedy sometimes, when in fact we feel hopeless with any bad event, and hope secretly that is signals some sort of mass awareness or change or perhaps a final escape.
