Cars and ego
I used to own a honda S2000 and I have been fired... since I drive a 1988 honda civic Si, and you know what?

I feel free, like if material things aren't important anymore to me. Before I was proud of my car but today I don't car, I could drive a big shitty car I won't mind.

Did I improve something?

Re: Cars and ego
I yearn for the day my 67 dodge is restored enough to drive again. Very simply made . Also built like a tank. Unfortunately they were rust prone as they werent meant to last 40 plus years.

Probably. I feel exactly the same way.

A car to me now is just a tool to get me from A to B. I'm too old anyway to be 'pulling the birds'.

And I can't even stand programs such as Top Gear...whereas I'd have been drooling over it if it had been out in my day.

Times change. I had a good run, and I'm thankful for that. Now it all seems pretty shallow though, to me.

Re: Cars and ego
Yes, you improved.

Before, you needed a material object to validate yourself. It made you feel important, proud, and got you attention.

Now, it sounds like you have found an inner strength that gives you the sense of peace and contentment an external object can never give.

If we could raise children to have reliance on their inner strengths, we could have a vastly different world. A world devoid of materialism, insecurities and selfishness.

Maybe it is because I am getting older, or I opened my eyes and saw our world is based on the "having" instead of "being"...
