(As Benedict is so slim, I think it would have been far better if he had been beefed up using a Batman-like suit, especially for those who remember Montalban.) Still his portrayal is excellent..notice the animal-like expression when he says to Kirk that he is Khan..very reminiscent of the Anthony Hopkins expressions in Silence Of The Lambs. His arrogance is not as overly dramatic as Ricardo's was, but it was there. More intellect..less sensual. The op is to be reminded that this is an alternate universe established by Nero and Spock coming through the wormhole and making a new timeline...Everyone is younger..including Khan. Spock knows he can be emotional in this timeline but still, his tears in the death scene are particularly moving as he seemingly finally understands the concept of human friendship. Karl Urban's does a ok portrayal of the folksy Doctor McCoy, but perhaps the film's best offerings are the tremendous expansions of the talents and contributions of Sulu and Chekhov . It is also fantastic to see the crews total teamwork on constant display. Just great! I also liked how Carol Marcus was brought into Kirk's life and the hints of their future romance. For me what was hard to grasp was Spock and Ahura. Following after him, she seemed to not be at her post too much of the time..and she even seemed to be giving him her permission to to get Khan. Still, it's a very minor complaint..they'll probably be married in the next flick. The two movies are very well done in my opinion.. the op needs to view them a few times to reflect on the individual colorings the actors gave to their characters..characters they knew that we knew. Even with my admiration of Cumberbatch, I too think a Latino actor should have been used..if only because the original was Latino. It's would be a logical continuation of a memorable villian. The op's opposition is however just ANTI-WHITE RACISM. This gives his criticisms a vulgarity that is totally out of whack with the diversity these two movies expressed so well. |

No. Racism is the fact that TV and Movies are practically ALL White today even though society is mote multiracial than ever. My comments are intentionally crude to make a point. The point is that I SPIT on Hollywood. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 29363518 United States 06/15/2013 04:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I haven't seen an all-white movie since Lord Of The Rings. Hollywood promotes black man-white woman like it's going out of style. I guess that's why you hate ST-ID. A black woman likes a white guy..well the actress did it for money and only because here boy is controlled by her in the film and he's a physically powerful super intelligent alien. Such Haile Berry stuff doesn't exist outside of movies-in the real world..it just makes the opposite happen endlessly-black men-white women. In general, I hate Hollywood too, but privately, in their real world, it's white genocide they want. The "whites" you see on screen are usually that two percent who own Hollywood. They're white when their crimes are discovered ..like printing money out of thin air or running pedophile sex rings. They chortle when the non-whites, as planned, point an accusing finger at the white race..its a centuries old blame deflection tradition. I haven't looked at Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, but I assure you that William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy fullfil the requirements. Check out what Nimoy is doing in his spare time..he and fellow triber Hugh Hefner have a lot in common. I am not going to worry about it..no point. I am a trekky and I will remember Shatner and Nimoy as I want to remember them. But I'm not fooled by deceit, greed and arrogance..however it manifests itself. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 21977565 United States 06/15/2013 04:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No, it is not like the original. But I was surprised to find that it did grow on me. I understand it as a new revisioning of the story, and accept it as such. I liked the new Khan. (Loved the accent!) Yeah, they rehashed a lot of Wrath of Khan in the movie, but I see it as a tribute to the story. And remember, this is all happening in an alternate timeline universe. As for the "racist" claim--SHUT UP. "Whitey", as you put it, created the advanced western civilization you are fortunate enough to live in. Foreigners used to come to America to assimilate and become a part of this great nation. Now they come and want to recreate the conditions of whatever hellhole they were trying to get away from. I am sick that this country has been allowed to be invaded and taken over by foreigners. We don't have a culture anymore because we have forgotten our past, and allowed whatever is new and shiny on any particular day to become our new lifestyle. Without a unifying culture, a society falls apart. This country is becoming an amoral morass, no right or wrong, no cultural history on which to build a civilized societal foundation. |
