My mig welder is not feeding the wire
The wire feed motor is NOT turning. Fan goes on and elec is working fine, it just can't feed the wire. I can easily pull the wire so its not that. The wire feed motor is turning at all.

The lincoln is only a year old and has been used maybe a fifty hours. Built a trailer and a few other things with it.

What could cause this?

Trade it in for a stick welder. But if you're that much in love with it see if the pinch rollers are loose or if there's a bad connection with the feed motor.

All the wires I can get at are fine. The thing worked great last time I used it.

Stick welders are great but all I have at the moment is this one.

Re: My mig welder is not feeding the wire
Use multimeter to check voltage to motor...if no voltage, it might be the PCB...if there is voltage and it varies when you change the wire speed setting, it s probably a bad motor...Lincoln is pretty good about warranty...order motor & replace....

One more thing to check is the contactor in the gun...

Re: My mig welder is not feeding the wire
either no juice to the motor or the motor is bad.

No juice- disconnected wire, switch

Motor like above check for voltage and resistance

Re: My mig welder is not feeding the wire
In order to check the voltage I'd have to open the panels and void the warrenty. My instinct tells me it is not in the unit.

I seriously doubt the motor is bad. The machine is like new.

Like I mentioned everything works EXCEPT the wire feed motor. I could weld if the wire would feed.

Is there the possibilty that the gun could be broken or a terminal messed up in the gun that activates the wire feed? If so it seems to be a molded one piece unit, but there must be some way to take the gun apart. How do I take the gun apart?

Re: My mig welder is not feeding the wire
It ain't the gun, MIG Man. The "gun" merely gets your filler material to the metal you're welding--you should know that as a welder!! The problem is either one of the rollers is jammed or the motor is shot. As a previous poster suggested, find your warranty card and receipt and take the unit back where you purchased it. You will either get a refund or replacement parts.

look for some screws, I took mine apart, can't remember how I did it, I think it had a nut like thing were the wires go into the handle that holds 2 pieces of the handle together.

Re: My mig welder is not feeding the wire
There should be screws that hold the gun halves together...when its open, clean the switch contact behind the trigger...I get pulsing on my unit when there is a buildup of soot there...

If its under warranty, why not take it to the repair center?

Hi, does the gas soleniod click inside the unit when you hit the trigger ...if so then the trigger is ok and it's probaly the PCB or the wire speed pot... if not it's the trigger

Its a four hour drive to the nearest repair center.

I'll take the gun apart. I seriously don't think it's the motor or the PCB. I treated the gun pretty poorly when I look back. Kicked it a few times, stepped on it a few times, dropped it often, wacked it, used it as a hammer...etc.

Click mean gun trigger is doing its job...motor or PCB likely...

or since this is glp....a solar flare overloaded the circuits fusing them together...

lmao

Good luck dude...

Hi again, if the electode tip arcs out on your work if it is touched to it while you hit the trigger it is definatly the PCB that has failed ... not much to replace... I don't know if lincon PCB units have a fuse or not but some other brands do. Could you call your dealer to find out?

TIGMAN it sparks and if I could get my woman to touch the wire and feed it I could weld.

Maybe it is the PCB after all. I'll call the service center and see if this is a common problem in the morning.

Not everybody who hangs out here and posts is an idiot. Can you scan whatever circuit diagram Lincoln might have provided with the machine and post the scanned image to some public place?

Might there be a Lincoln welder website where such a circuit diagram is already found?

I got it under control. The only reason I didn't test the motor is because its PCB is inside the machine and if I open it up it would void the warrenty...but the more I think about it the less I care about the warrenty.

I'm going to open it up in the morning and put a voltmeter on it and track down the problem.

Your wife can't feed the wire at a smooth enough rate to weld. Leave her alone.

What exact model Lincoln do you have?
