This has been long in coming. Most peeps dont know how violent life in Brazil is. The criminals are armed with illegal military weapons and they rob, rape and kill with no conscience. Mostly it is teenagers under the age of 18 that do the killing since the laws allow them to get a slap on the wrist and go free. But the far larger concern is the absolute corruption in government and law enforcement there. The people have just had it and are rising up. Mostly because they see it happening in other countries like syria, turkey, libya, egypt and sweden to name a few and they have decided to voice their anger in the same way.

Any word on casualties? I've watched a couple videos of the cops shooting high but not actually shooting into groups of protesters.

Flouride works well doesn't it!! What other mind control substances are being put in our bodies??

No casualties until now, the cops were forbidden to use rubber guns so now they are using real weapons lol but until now shooting to the air to scare people. Brazil is really not like some ditators countries, we had an dictatorship some decades ago and the people took the streets and attacked and removed the militars from the power. We would never ever accept dictatorship again, if one cop shoot one guy in the protests the country is gonne, everything will turn upside down. The leaders and the cops know that. And the people will probably kill all the cops after that, lol, Brazilian people are like zergs, they are crazy... I dont think that the cops are going to shoot people, they have shooted a rubber bullet in the eye of ONE reporter and in a matter of hours 10k people on the streets became 250k (like zerg). No kidding, its a war zone.

Looks like the Main Stream Media finally picked up the story about an hour ago and is running with it.

However, many of the articles are showing pictures of small groups of ten, thirty people as if to downplay the significance.

On the other hand, the initial link in this thread shows hundreds of thousands in the streets. Even Times Square at New Year's Eve is not looking like that.

9 percent is a large portion of one's spendable income. Each transaction you lose another nine percent. I was furloughed a couple of years ago and forced to take a 9 percent pay cut for over a year and it made a dent! Depending how close to the bone you are already cutting your budget, it can be devastating. We, however, didn't riot. Wish we had but there was no will.

World cup IS more popular....BUT

Olympics require the building and updating of MULTIPLE venues instead of just one stadium.

Also...Olympics will have ALL participating countries' delegates to deal with....World cup will be just 2 countries and fans.

It's WAAAAY more expensive and a whole different ballgame....no pun intended.

In the side of the photo is my city, what connects both cities is an bridge.

When the protests started in RJ and SP soon it came here too. Half of this city have stopped friday, when I went to the university the buses were avoiding the center of the city because the people have taked over the prefecture building because they rised the taxes of the buses in Niteroi as well from R$2,75 to R$2,95 last week. In 2012 they rised two times, from R$2,10 to R$2,50 and then again to R$2,75 just in one year. In 2011 it was from R$1,75 to R$2,10. The boats that bring people from Niteroi to RJ was taxed from R$2,80 to R$4,50 this year... And the services havent changed anything. So, when they rised it again people just get furious, the R$3,00 was the limit. It was the last drop in an icerbeg that has insane corruptions, mafia from the corporations of transport,government, they have robbed everything and putted laws that is just outrageous.

The same they day that they taxed the buses people went to the street, than the cops shooted the people... The midia was against the people sending from secret services people in the moods to vandalize the city and they put that on news making the sheeps think that the protests were just some vandals destroying the city for 20 cents. But the cop in RJ are crazy (watch the movies Elite Squad 2007, and Elite Squad: The Enemy Within 2010 and you will understand perfectly) so they shooted the midia too, here is the video:



And then they the journalists went crazy, after that they put one of them blind and another in the hospital, here the picture:

And thats it, half of the midia turn against the government and the cops... And the country went upside down.

Now we got 1 million on the streets in São Paulo, 1 million on the streets in Rio de Janeiro, and thounsants of new protests dated for the next entirely week. The government are in fear, they are trying to negociate, but I think its too late. Like I said, crazy Zergs.

International midia was not talking about these events, but its actually happening for a entirely week, EVERY day people are going to the streets... They were trying to cover up this revolution because of $$ related to Fifa and corporations interests.

But tonight it was more intense, they could not turn away... First it was BBC.com some hours after NYT and CNN are still making this low... And there is more... Its not happening only in Brazil, its happening all over the world, Brazilians have gone to the streets in France, Canada, USA, Portugal, Australia, all Europe, Japan, etc... Its very huge, all of this is only the tip of the iceberg.
