Talking to my husband in the Netherlands.

The Dutch news [link to www.nu.nl] they are reporting that at least 10 cities in Brazil are protesting against the government. They have taken the roof of the Brazilian Parliament in Brasília.

Also, they are reporting that several dozen people were wounded by the police in the city of São Paulo further inciting the anger of the protesters.

eeps.
 Quoting: Éireann

Its much more than that, I put the list of the cities in protest on the first page of this post, its more than 200 cities. The midia is covering this one up. A lot of cities have given up and the prefectures have started to down the taxes, one city close to mine downed from R$3,20 to R$1,00 the bus taxes, another one downed to R$1,50 yesterday... The lower cities are giving up, the big ones holding up. This 10 cities protest story is fake, its the entirely country, including other countries. Check the links in the first page for more intel. :)

One of my colleagues, located in Sao Paulo, texted me last night about this. She was stucked at work, very close of the protest, and she told me there were helicopters, a lot of police with heavy weapons and equipment...
I will have more infos in some hours, I'll post here if there is something new.

As someone else said, there are protests in a lot of countries, and often "pushed" by governments (Turkey: park, Greece: TV, Brazil : bus price...).. Stupidity? Coincidence?

Even in France, it's more and more tensed. It was really close to escalate with gay marriage, I think that the next elections will be pretty agitated...

Oh, this was me, I forgot to log in.

And no, we dont have weapons... But we have something curious in our country... That are the favelas. The favelas are areas around the huge cities where the poor people live, and those places are not covered by the government, or police, literally... They are governed by the organized crime. No one go there, if you drive your car there you are dead, seriously. A lot of people take wrong roads in the cities and enter in favelas without knowing it and they just get shot and die without knowing what have happened. The Army had taken over the huge favelas in the RJ in the last years because of FIFA and the World Cup. Video below

But the organized crime have just moved to other favelas. They have not manifested about these protests, the protests have been done by the people of the cities not favelas... And well, the favela guys have weapons. War weapons, rockets, granades, machine guns, AK, mines, etc... Thats why the government in 2010 and 2011 needed the Army to take those place back from the organized crime. So, asking your question, the people of the cities have no way to fight the police, no weapons... But If the favelas resolve to strike things can get ugly.

The internacional movies and midia focus too much in the favelas when they try to present Brazil to the world, so usually people from other countries dont know that in Brazil we have this two worlds, the cities and the favelas around it... They are really two completely different worlds.

Here is an picture of the the Rocinha`s favela, and the city close to it.

[link to 2.bp.blogspot.com]

Two different worlds, so, the favela population have not manifested yet. But something interest happened in 2006 when the cops killed one of their leaders or something like that I dont remember, and they just put the biggest city of Brazil on fire with 250 terrorist attacks at the same time. The entirely city needed to be "locked" and the Elite Police went to the streets and a war began, no one could live their houses, it was noticed by the international midia the time, it was crazy.

So, I dont think that they would do that now because they like what the protestors in the cities are doing. Because their enemy is not the people but the government. So, maybe thats why they are quiet. But something smells that they are planning something. I think what could do if the favelas would join this movement, I honestly cant even imagine what would happen. Its like one day its the City vs Favela, and in the next day the City and Favela vs the Government. lol. But yea, they have weapons, a lot of them... Check this out:

Don't know if theres a lider anymore, you see every kind of people, all the kind of ideological views.

There are left wings supporters "fighting" side by side with right wing supporters, for example.

Some people protesting there clearly are following some leaders, we can see this by their flags they are carryng.

But the majority of the people are there just because they noticed how huge the riots become, and they want to be part of this, they saw this as an opportunity to show to the government all the revolt of the people with the corruption that drains this country.

So yeah, it started small, with a few leaders, and after some days, the shit got huge, totally out of control of any leadership.

I am sure there isn't

Soccer here is a national passion, but people don't mix it with politics, like happens in Turkey and Egypt.

I posted in the 6th page (last post there i think) that i am afraid of this. I think its very possible there is a political agenda behind the riots, and the people are really doing a great job playing the usefull idiots.

I hope to be very wrong on this, but, i can't deny this is a possible scenario.

Actually there's almost no opposition here anymore.
I expected PSDB (party of the brazilian social democracy) to do this job, but they are terrible in this.
The most prominent names of this party are Aécio Neves, Geraldo Alckmin, José Serra and the ex-president Fernando Henrique Cardoso.

Our actual government, the Worker's party (PT) is governing without any kind of opposition for more than a decade.

Democracy & hypocrisy go hand in hand. Western "civilization" is a very thin veil that gets removed easily once you let your voices be heard the hard way, when nothing else seems to work. By then, all your so called rights and liberties go flying out the window and you're just beaten like dogs.

I often chuckle when someone high in the government condemns the way others in the middle east are treated when demonstrating peacefully, when truth be told, they would probably employ the same tactics were the heat under their own feet would become too much to bear. That goes for the US of A, and the EU too. It just has not reached that point... Yet.

historically, no president/state governor gave enough attention to the favelas problem, that's why this problem achieved this magnitude.

Surely, some politicians give more attention to the favelas, but usually as a way to get votes during the elections.
There are some urbanization projects here and there, a welfare program called "bolsa família" that helps a bit. But theres nothing really effective to combat this problem. Nowadays, favelas are a cultural element of the brazilian society.

Damn... the friggin' world is on fire!

And we're sitting on the biggest powder keg of them all right here in the good ol' U.S. of A.

Is it just me or is anyone else making the correlation between all this shit going on and all the end times prophecies?

Errr... Have no idea.

Thank you. What is this peoples position on favelas problem?
 Quoting: arkadiy

historically, no president/state governor gave enough attention to the favelas problem, that's why this problem achieved this magnitude.

Surely, some politicians give more attention to the favelas, but usually as a way to get votes during the elections.

Just to complete my last post:

During the elections, every candidate is sensible to this problem, they promisse to do everything to get rid of favelas by increasing the income of the people, by investing in education, healthcare, safety and bla bla bla that never happens.

So all i can say is that every politician in this country is sensible to this problem (otherwise they won't get votes), but when they get in power, they do nothing or very little to change this.

people are starting to open their eyes to all the corruption going on in Brazil, and they KNOW Brazil will be just like Portugal/Greece/France/Spain in one/two years....

Problem is NOT the people "living above their money".
