I hear you! My husband and I have no debt, own our home and can live very cheaply. We probably won't retire for several years, but we've earned every damn dime that we'll be getting.

No, the boomers didn't treat their kids like kings. This continues to represent their selfish ego: I took care of you (somewhat) so you must respect me (all the while they GOT more from their own parents). The boomers are the ones who think "18 and instantly out the door" even if there is no job for their children. And they don't pay for their children's education ("get a job"). The boomers, moreover, are the ones who ransacked the earth, took its resources, partied hardy and then ask their children to find a life in the garbage they left behind.

With rare exception, what makes you think any of us can afford to retire? And by the same token, who wants to spend years of their lives being bored to death each day? I'd much rather continue on working until I'm too sick to do it any longer. Work gives a life meaning and purpose. Idleness because one is older is insanity. Loot at all the experience and mental resources we waste each year by forcing people to retire when they're still healthy and capable of working.

No my friend - mandatory retirement age is not a good thing. Not at all. People would be allowed to work as long as they want to and as long as they're able to do so. If that's 85 or 90 years of age, then so what?

The boomers thought "we don't need one parent working families, we can have two, doubling our income." In doing so, they turned the economic scale upside-down, so the only way one can make it is if you are in a two-parent working family. And that is why so many are "welfare" voters. There is no honest paying job, because of the selfishness of the boomers who think of getting money first, not thinking about how they have devalued money. And then they have taken all the jobs, so there is no job but slave labor left. And then, having all the money, they complain about "welfare voters." You made them you dumbasses. Well, this is what the consumer culture the baby boomers have created leads to, and it is another form of "bread and circuses." The gadgets are all their to play with while the kids can't get real careers as the jobs aren't forthcoming. If there were no gadgets, there would be revolution.

i work part time which is 15 hours a week and make 80 to 100 a day and your allowed 15K a year before they start taking back any SS.

Oh, and btw, all the baby boomers show no family values. Historically, support was family wide, not individual, and this is how rich families remain rich: they group their wealth together, help each other in their family compounds. They are laughing at the "it's mine, not yours" of the baby boomers who are making sure their families are sold into slavery while the rich families "keep together."

Except for my husband--he's a boomer and probably won't ever retire. I'm an Xer and my parents were of the "Silent Generation".

Our kids do have more challenges. They can't find jobs that actually pay a living wage anymore so how can they get married or even afford a place of their own, married or not?

Yes, they have their bad points just like every single other generation, but their opportunities are getting slimmer and college rarely helps.

Imo, this is indicative of a failed or failing system.
With all the technology and resources each generation should have it easier than the last.

Instead, it gets harder and harder. Sure, each individual is responsible for himself, but the system doesn't work in anyone's favor.

So all this "get a job and move out on your 18th birthday" crap just won't work anymore.

If something doesn't change, we're circling back to multiple generations under one roof really fast.
