Vet Is Coming Friday To Put Down My Dog..
While I agree with and stand by every single comment I have ever made here(EVERY ONE FOREVER!),I am in great distress because the Vet is coming tomorrow to put down a good good dog. I can't stand it.
His name is Jasper, aka Booby-boy, and he has been an excellent friend and protecter for 11 years. He is a Chow-Shepherd mix. When my grandbaby was little,he would cuddle up to her so gently. He never took to any men but would hide under the bed whenever one would come over.
He has lived his whole life with three generations of females...me,my daughter and my granddaughter.
He has had the best life we could give him...big yard, pool, toys, lots of 'good dogs' and lots of pets and hugs..

He had cancer surgery in late '08 for a mast tumor and subsequent chemo to the tune of $7000 but we were glad to be able to do it because,as I said,he is a good good dog.
He has been on Rimadyl and tramodal for years and those meds destroy the liver. They make him so constipated he can barely poop.
He has arthrites so bad that he sometimes gets' stuck' trying to walk...can't go forward, can't go backwards.
I love him so much but the look in his eyes is too much too much to bear.
I have to lift him in and out of the patio to pee and today I saw him pee himself because he just couldn't get up.
His back legs are worthless to him. He walks on his ankles in the back.He is about 60 piunds and I am 105#. I can't lift him in and out anymore. I'm older and afraid of having a heart attack.
It IS time but my heart breaks to let him go.

Ranting here,I know,but....he is so good. But he doesn't FEEL like a good dog anymore. You can see it in his eyes.
Thanks for listening.

I'm sorry, Meow. It's hard to make that decision. I wish I had the words to comfort you. I've been where you are, too. The best I can do is send you one of these...hugs

Re: Vet Is Coming Friday To Put Down My Dog..
I heard once, that one of the most loving things we can do for our good dogs is "let them go" when the time comes. I have two, both 10 years old now, and it will about kill me when the time comes. Just be really really thankful for all the good times with your good dog, and remember that there will be more good dogs to come.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I've had to put down four dogs over my life. I truly believe that they are here to help us see the cycle of life in a concise timeframe.

Love... friendship... companionship... mercy.

Dogs can break the hardest hearts, help the hardest time, they can bond people, they are truly awesome animals.

You've done your best to take care of your friend, and lend your love to another future friend that needs it.

I love you all. I am not sleeping lately because of this but I took 2 sleeping pills last night. Won't do that again.
He cries most of the time and I know when he looks in my eyes that he is begging for relief. Tomorrow,my dear and faithful friend.
I have always been against euthanesia but if I hurt as badly as Jasper,I would change my mind.

Last June,I fell and hurt my knee so badly I couldn't walk for several weeks. I'm not young. I don't heal as well as I did 20 years ago.Bone degeneration. Blah.
But,in those first few weeks when it seemed I would never be free from extreme pain (or walk w/o extreme pain again), I thought about how I would end my life if THIS was what I would face every second until the end.
Not kidding.
You don't know until you've been there.
Pray for my dog,for Jasper, who has been the most loving dog ever.
Tomorrow he will be with God.
Thank you all for caring.

We rescued a male husky last week. He was 30 lbs. underweight & 90% of his fur from the shoulders back was gone.

He looks like Demon from Snowdogs but he is very loving & very submissive.

I took him to the vet on Monday for a weight check & he had put on 6.7 lbs. in just one week so that was good news.

I'm so sorry :( I have two dogs, both rescues, one drives me nuts with all his begging and whining for attention, but he was my baby before I had my first child, and he sleeps in bed with me at night and it kills me to even think of this cause he's 9 this year and I know that time us coming.
This is horrible, but I hope that he dies in his sleep one night, it would be awful to find him, but then I would not have to make the decision to have him put down due to his suffering.

It is so very hard :(

I'm so sorry.

Re: Vet Is Coming Friday To Put Down My Dog..
From Friend to Friend
You’re giving me a special gift,
So sorrowfully endowed.
And through these last few cherished days,
Your courage makes me proud.
But really, love is knowing
When your best friend is in pain,
And understanding earthly acts
Will only be in vain.
So looking deep into your eyes,
Beyond, into your soul,
I see in you the magic, that will
Once more make me whole.
The strength that you possess,
Is why I look to you today,
To do this thing that must be done,
For it’s the only way.

Re: Vet Is Coming Friday To Put Down My Dog..
That strength is why I followed you,
And chose you as my friend,
And why I’ve loved you all these years…
My partner till the end.
Please, understand just what this gift
You’re giving , means to me,
It gives me back the strength I’ve lost,
And all my dignity.
You take a stand on my behalf,
For that is what friends do.
And know that what you do is right,
For I believe it too.
So one last time, I breathe your scent,
And through your hand I feel,
The courage that’s within you,
To now grant me this appeal.
Cut the leash that holds me here,
Dear friend, and let me run,
Once more a strong and steady dog,
My pain and struggle done.
And don’t despair my passing,
For I won’t be far away,
Forever here, within your heart,
And memory I’ll stay.
I’ll be there watching over you,
Your ever faithful friend,
And in your memories I’ll run,
..…a young dog once again.

I'm so sorry for you and your good dog. We love them so much, and they love us back. When you're ready, perhaps another rescue dog? We love our guy and it will break our hearts when he goes, but he has enriched our lives so much. My son (the one who acquired him from a shelter a few days before he would have been put down), swears that he knows he was saved. Such a sweet and loving dog, and there are so many out there.
