This is one of the tanks that holds millions of gallons of a “highly radioactive stew” from decades of producing plutonium for nuclear weapons. The liquid in one of the nuclear waste tanks has decreaed in level, indicating a leak which raises serious concerns about the integrity of the other tanks holding the same type of waste. This is the nation’s most contaminated nuclear sites and due to the long-delayed clean-up of this site, the fears of nuclear waste leaking have now materialized. [link to www.examiner.com] |

Six of those tanks were discovered in February to be leaking at a rate of about 1,000 gallons annually. The double-shelled tanks were thought to be safe.
