Apparently this "overland" coverage isn't even available in Canada; that alone makes me wonder. Also, Calgary had a pretty good flood in 2005. Much smaller mind you, but still caused a lot of damage. | catsscratchfever User ID: 33747838 Canada06/23/2013 10:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Had 6 inches of rain fall in 8 hrs 2 yrs ago...Needless to say destroyed my basement that was fully furnished Figured i was safe as a kitten..insurance adjuster came and assessed...Had 1 question for me...Where did the water come from that flooded your basement...Told him it came from the sky in rain form...He shook his head and told me there is nothing they could do...Immediately phone my home insurance agency...They told me their was nothing they could do to help me....Found out later the only way to protect your self in a time of a flood is to have a sump pump installed in you basement...(((Found this info on the internet...NOT FROM INSURANCE AGENCY))))...Flood insurance only covers broken pipe's in you house....PERIOD.... Agreed....The problem here is if you have a mortgage on the house you live in the bank will drop said mortgage instantly if you do not have full insurance coverage on your house...And you are out on your ass...Its a great scam...it's been screwing people for years.... Yeah, its all about to backfire in a big way. Any person caught up in this that has lost their home, and had a mortgage - had insurance. The insurance coverage they apparently needed to cover this disaster according to the IBC (Insurance Bureau of Canada) - isn't even available in Canada. But if you owe money to the bank - they're still going to want it. This could get interesting ... also very sad for the folks caught up in it. What you said here is dead on....But i might add that in approx 3 to 6 months from now all of our insurance premiums will jump for house insurance due to the claims made from this disaster....Sad thing is they will fabricate and trump up the number of home owners that made claims in order to justify higher premiums....And in all reality no one is covered in this disaster...I have a family member high up in this mafia called insurance....She is the one who gave me the 3 to 6 month timeline...And yes i feel sick for the folks that think they are covered for this flood...It's a horrible feeling knowing your not covered after the fact...I wonder how many will remortgage their house to cover the costs of repair...The only ones that win here are the banks and the insurance agency's.....Its sicking and thing NEED TO CHANGE....  |
