Was Hastings' car hacked? It is possible...
What do you guys think? Was Hastings car hacked? Was it an accident lol

The circumstances of Hastings’ death could not be more suspicious. Plenty of people had a motive to kill Hastings, and not just parties in the American government. Private contractors, who do most of the heavy lifting for the NSA, have billions of dollars at stake in the debate about the NSA’s spying program. Another leak could put the entire program at risk. A motive can be clearly established.

But what about the means? Would potential assassins risk exposure by using some crude (and easily detected method) such as a car bomb? Utilizing such a method would ensure a lengthy and extensive investigation, something that potential assassins would take care to avoid.

There is another way.

Shameless self-bump for "this could happen to you."

Seriously, another great reason to drive a clunker/old car.

Wow! I saw the whole vid. They could essentially control every component of the car including the throttle and brakes. If the car had a park assist feature then theoretically, they could steer the car remotely. They demonstrated how they could gps track, pinpoint and listen in via the cars mic. They could introduce the code via bluetooth or thru the cars telnet service, e.g, Onstar or similar since every manufacturer has this as a standard feature now.

I find it interesting that Hasting's mercedes car burst into flames completely destroying all eidence of tamper.

The poor guy died in one of the safest cars ever made...I think it was a 500 series. I think theey have a minimum of 16 airbags! Im sure they they deactivated the seatbelts first and foremost. A fire would have covered up the evidence of non-deployment of airbags because the heat would have acitvated them...

Even if it hadn't burst into flames, these car-hacking techniques make it possible to erase all evidence of tampering. But just to be sure...

The vid showed how easily they could unlock the doors, overide all security proticols and start the car and drive away without a key all via a smartphone using old unix code, lol. They were joking about just how easy it was.

The only thing I don't get is how you go from hacking/taking control of the car and making the car explode, though I suppose if you were going fast enough, the collision could do it. I heard somewhere that you would have to be going pretty fast to cause that kind of damage.

Just think when we all have self-driving cars! And big rigs...

The ECM controls the fuel pump...which is located in the fuel tank. It also controls the high presure fuel injectors and the railings. im sure you could do some damage with those devices, especially on moment of impact.

I highly think his car was hacked. I mentioned it on the first post about his crash. Either that or they put a rabid raccoon in his car... And a bomb underneath..

Pssst.

You know those mandated tire air pressure monitors? Yeah, they offer attackers an easy way into your car's computer. Remote and wireless, never have to touch the car.

What do you think that those mysterious car thieves are using to get in?

So, moment of impact (a signal in and of itself), throttle the heck out of the fuel pump? I could see how that would work.

When I was a kid, the father of one of my classmates was killed by a car bomb. True story. Mob was big in my little town (in the old days you could walk across the state line to escape arrest.)

Since last week, the idea that Hastings' car was hacked has hit the mainstream in a big way, I think even Fox News has mentioned the possibility. And of course Richard Clarke came out saying that it was a possibility. Hastings' friends have vowed to get to the bottom of it. I don't know what is going to become of the story...I imagine that it will just lurk in the background after a while, like the DC Madam, Vince Foster, etc., etc.... unless some new information comes forward.
