Last Saturday, Banff mechanic Tim Bartlett was christening a new motorcycle through the Rocky Mountains when he had a rare wildlife encounter that was equal parts terrifying and enchanting. On a stretch of British Columbia’s Highway 93, a massive grey wolf emerged from the trees, lunged at his speeding ride and chased after him at full speed as he pulled away. How did this happen? I was about 320 [kilometers] into a 400 k trip … and was doing about 90km/h in the right hand lane going north and [the wolf] came from the left hand side of the road. It darted out, crossed the other lane and I had to swerve and accelerate to get around it. I went forward about 100 meters and when I turned around it was just standing in the middle of the lane watching me. [link to news.nationalpost.com] Maybe someone can post the photos? I think there is only one gas station in the 1.5 hours it takes to drive from the Trans Canada turnoff to Radium Hot Springs. -EAT

I recognize that spot where he saw the wolf on #93. It's about 30 minutes from Radium Hot Sptings. That is near the base of the Sinclair Pass. On our trip to Radium this year, in that same stretch of highway, we saw a big moose hanging out by the side of the road eating grass. Moose are generally very timid. You don't see them hanging out in the ditch by a highway.

Dogs just gotta be dogs. When I was a kid, (before leash laws) dogs would always chase motorcycles, cars too sometimes. That wolf is gorgeous.
