The average black man is harder and tougher than the average white man due to century's of being murdered, raped, killed and forced to live in poverty. She dictated it to her friend, and it was read to her, and she said that's what she said. You know, historically, that is what a LOT of people did. Not everyone can read -- but they can still give testimony. Being able to read is not a requirement to dictate a letter.
