Fresh intelligence row over US 'bugging' of EU offices - Snowden intel
BERLIN: Washington targeted European Union offices in Brussels and the United States, German weekly Der Spiegel reported on Sunday, in fresh spying allegations attributed to US fugitive Edward Snowden.

The story, the latest in a series of allegations about US intelligence activity, is likely to further strain relations with its European partners.

European Parliament President Martin Schulz said in a statement he was shocked at the allegations and demanded full clarification from Washington.
 Quoting:

This is the only english written link I could find, it aired in danish newspapers and this article refers to an article published in der Spiegel, germany

[link to gulftoday.ae]

"If the allegations prove to be true, it would be an extremely serious matter which will have a severe impact on EU-US relations." He demanded full and speedy clarification from the US authorities.

US spying was "out of control," said Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn.

"The US would do better to monitor its intelligence services instead of its allies," he added.

Even before the latest allegations, the EU's Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding wrote to US attorney general Eric Holder earlier this month calling for answers about its Internet spy programme.

this is the der spiegel link, if my german serves me well enough. [link to www.spiegel.de]

and the danish one [link to www.avisen.dk]

The above are both about NSA gathering data on EU officials.

Brought up by CuriosityCat1, also very important article from another whistle blower:
[link to www.salon.com]

The NSA has been working with at least seven European other countries to collect personal communications data, according to Wayne Madsen, a former NSA contractor who has come forward because he does not think the public should not be “kept in the dark.” According to Madsen, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain and Italy all have formed secret agreements with the US to submit sensitive data.

Some of the world is already starting to I think. While I think its good some of this info comes out, and surveillance/blackmail of officials could explain a lot, I feel for Americans and the way political decisions may tarnish their good reputation.

Imagine you have a 'good friend' and then you realize that he has lied to you, cheated and snooped you. How would you react?

The 'damage' that Snowden has done, Americans can not even really understand properly.

I don't see it as being "damage" at all.

Mr. Snowden has exposed criminal activity on the part of US "government" employees.

The criminals did the damage, not Snowden.

Wasn't really the damage Snowden has done though, sure, he put it all out in the open, and he wont be winning any popularity contests with some people for that, but ultimately, the actions he blew the whistle on are someone else s responsibility altogether.

Here is a question you may need to think upon.

If it was correct and completely legal for the US NSA to basically spy on every man, woman, child in the world that they could, then why would it have to remain a secret? If it really is totally legal, why was it purposely withheld from most of the US ghovernment, and the world?

If they had nothing to hide, then why were they hiding it?

I'd expect nothing less from a global power.

I'm pretty sure that the major powers within the EU are playing similar games with each other as well. What was the Russian saying? Trust but verify?

It just shows technology has moved on, USA doesn't need to hire hookers to do the job anymore.

Whatever legal actions from governments may follow remains to be seen, really. There is really no way to tell what dirt on who has been gathered, and how much they want it to remain hidden.
It could just end in a big fizzle with some 'stop this now or face dire consequences'- letters.

(These letters are another 'conspiracy' altogether, I believe they are being used as politicians version of baseball cards, they come together *one leader to another 'hey, do you happen to have a 'grave consequences' letter from Obama? If so ill trade you for one of Merkel, I got two of those!')tounge

The NSA is spying in Germany on a much larger scale as we first thought. It is said that 500 million German phonecalls, e-mails and text messages are being tapped in looked at by the NSA.

According to Der Spiegel Germany is being watched just as much as the VS is watching China, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Snowden was the bigger man to stand up and say this isn't right. If you are a coward and think he should have stayed quiet then go back in your hole and shut up. What he did was uncover corruption that has taken us where we are. How about someone coming forward with truth about 911, we know you are out there and the time is running out, the world is now on your side. The truth will set you free
