They will just talk up a big game. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 39882328 As for China, the Chinese don't care about jews or arabs or persians or Islam. They will support whoever gives them a better economic deal. This is true. Russia only cares about the near-far policy & has practiced it mostly for hundreds of years. They are much better at using proxies. Historically they are not good at projecting power with their military far from their borders (Afghanistan) & were only able to advance against the Germans after the U.S. & GB softened them up a lot. |

Russia just like every other Nation is targeted for destruction by the EU using Americas military and Intelligence for the bankers of England. There is also alot of Gas and Oil under the Sea off of Syria and Russia is queued up to get some of the contracts to develop it as long as they can keep Turkey and the EU in check long enough. Russia controls the main gas pipeline that fuels the EU a weaker EU means a stronger Russia. |

Some pieces must be sacrificed, some cannot be defended in time, some are more important than others, and a few must hold out a long as possible. Its a long game, confusing to many but clear to few... |

Russia had a very large footprint in Libya that they ended up losing because they believed. |

Syria is at the edge of that sphere and there is no land route that doesn't involve invading somebody. But I don't think that is why they never seem to help their so called friends. The real reason is that they are just like the rest of us. They are tied into this global economy and nobody wants the party to end. Europe likes Russia's gas and china likes their oil. Russia and China like US grain. We're all in a big game together and nobody is really going to let some podunk puny country ruin that. You didn't see the US go rushing in to help Georgia did you? That actually would have been a terrible military expedition. Russia is a mighty beast in her sphere. Invincible practically. If Russia really wanted to I guess they could ship 50,000 troops into Syria and declare that Russia will defend Syria to the bitter end. That alone would preclude any possibility of war. Nobody wants to fight another heavy weight over small potatoes. If Russia does that though then the US and Europe start making life harder for Russia in the big fun game of money. So both sides talk big and in the end one side gets what they want and the other lets it happen because the money is good. Last Edited by Unixlike on 08/23/2013 09:57 PM |
