License Plate Reader Jammers | |
Bill in Brasil (OP) User ID: 41852956 Brazil 06/30/2013 06:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They are interesting articles. I met a guy a few years ago that said he never goes to Mill Valley to have cocktails anymore. He claimed that the city bought a hardware/software program for its police cars that scans the license plates of parked cars, say near a bar, does a lookup, and alerts the officer when one of the vehicles has had a DUI in the past couple years or so. The cop can then watch that car more carefully. Land of the free? |

Bill in Brasil (OP) User ID: 41852956 Brazil 06/30/2013 06:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | But when back stateside it is very disconcerting...the gubbermint is completely out of control between digital and phone monitoring and now this...something needs to be done. National ID cards with chips could be right around the corner...the next step is chip implants - sounds crazy but probably not that far off. |

Then, I got onto a toll road, and when I got off, I corrected the accident. I still got a fee notice in the mail. So this means that -either the rug flapped up and allowed detection, or the detector detected through the rug. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 40300096 United Kingdom 06/30/2013 06:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They would probably be legal to buy legal to sell, but illegal to use. Thats the usual ploy. ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) is used all over the UK it sets off an alarm in a police car equipped with anpr if someone isnt taxed insured or mot'd, or if the car is stolen stuff like that. A jammer would be pretty cool, but cant see what purpose it would serve other then to let those who already dont have insurance road tax and mot's cause more havoc on the roads. If it was a speed camera jammer then im all for that, those things are a pain in the arse and are always in places where they dont serve any other purpose then to collect revenue. |

If you obfuscated your plate, the car would show as no plate, or another number. The other number would have to be clean and a similar vehicle. If they take a picture, it could conceivably identify you without the plate number. Probably the only way to really jam such a thing would be with HPM, and that might permanently take out half the electronics in the cop car. Good for a laugh, but the cop may not get the joke, and may still take your picture. Any other ideas? |

Overload invisible IR light on too you plate that it will over saturate the camera's image sensor... Granted this going to take alot... put your phone in real time camera and flash a remote... you will get the concept |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 42602401 United States 06/30/2013 07:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | a license plate must be able to be read from 500 feet away. 1. put on blinders like what's on stop signs that are only to be seen from one street but not another street that's at a close angle. you could then see the license plate from 500 feet away when you are directly behind the car, and that's all the government requires so they get what they asked for. 2. a holographerizer that only allows your license plate to be read when you are exactly 500 feet away. I believe that meets the requirements. 3. motorized license plate mountings that you can retract when the car is parked. who says they have to be visible when you are parked? does it say in the statutes? I don't think it does. or if you're on the cheap, use velcro. 4. attach your plates upside down. |

Even in the old days, you had the same wiring harness in all cars, they just capped certain plugs if you did not have a feature like air conditioning. I can not imagine it is cheaper to ommit tracking capability from some autos than it is to put it in all of them. |
