I don't see what I have in common with people who are 70 years old (born in the 40s)

I was born in the late 80s so it's not the same.

If you were born in the late 80's, then technically you're a child of the 90's. That's when your true childhood memories begin.

The 80's were the last decade of any kind of childhood normalcy. It's sad to say, but those who grew up in the 80's probably really do have more in common with those who grew up in the 40's than those who grew up in the 90's. 80's kids were the last generation to experience a wild, daring, and creative childhood while still maintaining their childlike innocence.

Of course, there are still some differences between the generations listed. There was definitely an erosion that occurred over the years in freedoms and changes in attitudes that made a child in the 80's unable to have the childhood of someone who grew up in the 40's.

I seriously doubt someone who grew up in the 80's could have gotten away with the things my generation did. I remember a bunch of us piling in the back of a pick-up truck driven by a 13-year old all over town without anyone batting an eye. No one would have thought anything of a 10-year old boy walking through town carrying a hunting rifle either.
