Why are these the only two possibilities? To me these orbs look more like some kind of non-physical lifeform (no craft involved). They may have the ability to phase in and out of our dimension, and seem to be able to morph or shapeshift to some extent. They may exist around us all the time, but perhaps we only see them when they phase into the part of the spectrum which is visible to us.
