The creepy online archive of Texas death row inmates' final words
Texas executed its 500th death row prisoner last week: Kimberly McCarthy, a 52-year-old woman convicted of murder. Resuming capital punishment in December 1982 after an earlier Supreme Court decision, the state has put to death more prisoners than the next several states combined. But for Texas’s condemned, their final words will live on forever—not on a note scribbled to family members or scratched into the paint of a cell wall—but on the Internet.

Texas has been collecting and posting inmates’ final words on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website for years, and officials told The New York Times that there were 3 million page views of final words last year alone. Only California comes close to resembling the archive that Texas offers.

God, hear our prayer. We want to give thanks for this day. I can't do that prayer, that prayer is not right for ya'lls family or my family. Please forgive me. I love ya'll. OK Warden, I am ready. I'm going home. I love ya'll. I'm feeling it. —Bobby Lee Hines, 2012

The chilling database allows visitors to view both written and verbal statements, information about the offender’s crime, age, date of execution, and the county the crime took place in.

I wonder if any of them that claimed to be innocent actually were...

It's happened before...the executing an innocent person only to find some DNA evidence afterwards that would have cleared them of the charges.

Well, I have just read about 50 of them, and found them very moving. I was struck by how many of them did demonstrate a spirit of repentance and regret for the pain that they had caused to their own families, and the families of their victims. Above all, on their insistence on Love.

They all are hopeless cases, coming up with reasons and excuses, egoistically seeking forgiveness in their last minutes.Instead of just taking full responsibility and be done with it. If there was a god I think that would be more respected.

Truly dumb people.

Well some people deserve the death sentence because of the their wickedness.

I didn't go to the last words page but I suppose that keeping and maintaining that site proves that tptb in TX actually DO respect all 'life, even those that they execute.

Keeping those last words are in a way of speaking, a permanent reminder of that person, like a monument, just mho.

If one had killed one of your family members you would not be such a liberal idiot.
The Right Policy is Always Conservative

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their President." - Vaclav Klaus

Its mainly because liberal policies keep them generational poor, stupid, and from broken homes. Whites are doing this to themselves.
