Americans generally may not be aware of it, but they are the source of a constant outpouring of movies or TV shows based on zombies.

Remember also the case of the "zombie cannibal" in Florida last year. Why was he referred to in this way on a large part of forum threads ?

And now, we have - yes, another movie basically about zombies... OK, it is featuring Brad Pitt no less, but still zombies are what the plot is based upon as far as I can deduce from

[link to www.imdb.com]

Furthermore, this movie of course is also jumping on the "world war" bandwagon which is a popular public issue. The clever idea here was to give it a title combining both zombies and world war.

Cultures have their own ways of life and their idiosyncrasies... why is American society sensitive to the highly improbably and fantastic zombie menace phenomenon ?

How did that movie end anyway? I only managed to watch the first 20 minutes before far exceeding the boredom threshold.

I Don't know how it ends. I'm only up to the bit where they land in South Korea and the virologist takes himself out.

Americans are so fixated & enthralled by zombies because the majority of them have become zombies.

KNowing now it's apparently basically another zombie movie, I think it isn't very likely I will spend my money to go watch it... it brings to mind that other recent movie without really interesting content but featuring some big names extremely popular with an existing fan following as attracting gimmicks - what's it called, Future Earth ?

The title of the movie comes from the novel it was based on...
World War Z by Max Brooks.

Did you think it was an original movie? lmao, it was made by Hollywood dude, they ran out of ideas around 1998.

Furthermore, the zombie explosion in popular culture is not confined to America, generally speaking we are moving past that limiting factor (national cultural phenomena) thanks in large part to the internet.

Zombies as a cultural phenomena are global.

Not by definition - no, I don't think so. There are many Americans with high concepts, unluckily however American society is IMHO kind of sick in many ways...

For once I like see a Zombie movie that focus on why people become zombies, how the out break started, who started it, and why they started it.

I believe it's to condition us. We cheer on the "good guys" for killing our fellow countrymen/women/children. Yes they are afflicted by some virus that makes them killers.
In fact i believe the whole movie contains subtle conditioning.

SPOILER ALERT

Towards the end of the film the "good guys" which include members of the WHO discover a cure for the "Zombie Virus" by injecting themselves with another deadly virus but one which they have a cure for. Then they begin the mass vaccination of said cure...I'm sure you see where i'm going here.

Re: World War Z - Do Americans have something with zombies ?
because they're trying to create them

because people want to subconsciously be able to kill other people (or at least they want people to)

because no fucking major producers have any good ideas other than zombies now

viruses and such also point to eugenics.

Not legion, it is called "I am Legend." And yes, it seems to be quite similar although I haven't watched WWZ because the zombies look like olympic-speed suicidal lemmings.

Brad Pit will never live down Troy, when he was Achilles.
He lost his career over that one role, because no one can even be more superior than Achilles.
His movie career is lost.....

Re: World War Z - Do Americans have something with zombies ?
Do you remember the 80s and some of the American movies?

I believe it was no accident that many, not all movies with terrorist themes contained characters of Arabic extraction. If they were not terrorists they were either scoundrels, thieves or generally unsavoury types thus reinforcing the idea that they are less persons. When you dehumanise a race of people for eg it makes it easier to accept wrongs perpetrated on them.

The "zombies" could just as easily be replaced as people carrying any other deadly virus that the TPTB convince the masses need extermination.

It really isn't like "I am Legend". For a better version of the story one needs to watch "Omega Man" with Charleton Heston.

The movie is propaganda. Get your damn vaccinations!!

The end of the movie brad says " the was is just beginning "... "it could happen any time"

The solution? Take a vaccination (they refer to it as a camofloge), I.e. exchange one disease (vaccination) to avoid becoming like a zombie.

Big pharma will save you...

Movies like this are programming. 'They' want to flame all the old atvaistic fears of the 'nonhuman' other. Same reason there was a glut of vampires, and to a lesser extent, werewolves, in recent media history too. They want to desensitize us to the sights and sounds of mass killing. They want us conditioned to expect global war.
