(Port Angeles) -- A series of explosions that rocked most of the Port Angeles area remains a mystery. Police dispatchers received calls from all around the area last night about 11:30 reporting the series of "booms". But police have been unable to uncover what may have caused the noises. Callers to Newsradio 1450 KONP reported a series of five explosions that shook their houses. One caller reported her glass sliding door shattered. No earthquake activity was reported overnight in the Port Angeles area.

These unexplained booms have been shaking things up all over the globe, but this is the first time I have heard about them happening 5 times in a row. Seems the pace is quickening.

Doesn't the navy do its testing and other military exercises in areas such as desolate islands in remote areas of the oceans? Aren't all military exercises conducted in such a manner? It would make sense if they are as concerned as they seem to be about preventing panics among the population. Isn't secrecy one of their biggest obsessions?

You can research the P-3 program. It's an open program except for the ASW technology details and the actaul weapons carried. That's all I can say.

You would think that if the navy were going to conduct such noisey exercises they would do it during daytime instead of at 11:30 at night when people are trying to sleep. Their operations would be shielded somewhat by daytime hubbub and they wouldn't be scaring people out of a sound sleep.

There are defined exercise missions and there are full-time defensive missions. The class of weapons deployed are different for exercises than those deployed for perceived "real threats" during defensive missions.

If these training and testing exercises miles out in the ocean can rattle people's homes on shore enough to shatter glass sliding doors, then it must be a real rough ride for the military personnel conducting the tests. Wonder what it's doing to sea life in the area. Must be hell for the whales and dolphins.
