Quoting: Heavenly Alchemy If they did that they would be seen as evil, so they should think long and hard about doing something like that. Do you really think that they care about being seen as evil. Some countries do much worse. How many countries these days do care. Yes, they should. Perception is important in that game they are playing. Do they really want Snowden and the people on the plane to become martyrs and spark more support of him? I think they should care too, but I am fairly sure that those who currently hold power feel as if they can squash any opposition with a combination of propaganda and fear. The thing is this is already out, from all that has been shown he has not complied with foreign governments to divulge Intel. To many it looks like what Snowden said last is true, they are acting fearful, like cornered animals over surveillance information. This does not look good for the government at all, it reinforces his last statement. |

The plane has diplomatic immunity! No one can board it without permission - PERIOD! True, although of course they could just keep the plane there until everyone needs to eat or whatever and then arrest Snowden when he gets off. Not quite. Diplomatic protocol requires that Morales be given all necessary assistance to enable him to continue on his way. Diplomatic immunity is one protocol...assistance is another...and so forth. |

I think he is a very clever expert at misdirection. I was just contemplating the exact same thing “If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can smile and blossom like a flower, and everyone in our family, our entire society, will benefit from our peace.” Thich Nhat Hanh, Being Peace "But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you." - Job 12:7,8 "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." - Hunter S. He could be deported, tried, jailed, and executed and the information will still be made public. The damage has been done, now the entire world despises this country. |

Agreed... and it goes to what others have said, that it is not about Snowden anymore, it is about stopping future leaks. Implying that there is a lot more damaging information that what the rather low level Snowden was able to obtain. This is all spy-games until we get something tangible -- such as some documentation on a Supreme Court Justice that implies, or explicitly states, that they were blackmailed. Have a nice day = GFY. GFY = Go Fuck Yourself. If this offends you then have a nice day. |

Associated Press has published extracts from a statement issued by the Bolivian defence minister, Ruben Saavedra, who was also on the redirected plane. It says the plane was allowed to land in Spain for refueling before flying on to Austria. It describes the rerouting as a "hostile act" by the US goverment: "This is a hostile act by the United States State Department which has used various European governments" CNN has interviewed the Bolivian defence minister, Ruben Saavedra, who has expressed outrage at the decision to reroute the president's plane. He said the US government was behind the rumours that Snowden was on board. "This is a lie, a falsehood," he said. "It was generated by the US government." He added: "It is an outrage. It is an abuse. It is a violation of the conventions and agreements of international air transportation" From the G____ uk (baned on glp) |

Diplomatic protocol requires that Morales be given all necessary assistance to enable him to continue on his way. Diplomatic immunity is one protocol...assistance is another...and so forth. Then they let Morales and anyone else with diplomatic status off the plane first. No. The primary protocol is that the diplomat, being on his territory, cannot be forced to vacate it. Instead he must be given all the assistance he requires and requests. Having said that, Bush has made such a mockery of international law by opening up Guantanamo, it is only fair to say that much of it, including the rules on diplomacy are likely to be degraded over the coming decades. If that were to occur, say hello to the law of the jungle, both internationally and at home. |
