Do the math... somebody was trying to grab one for some rich client prolly, maybe some bazillionaire's private zoo... something went fubar and they had to ditch it.
Maybe they had it stashed somewhere inland as the reports of unknown aircraft activity cover "several" nights (although that may simply be a little "flavor" added by the locals eh?)

Look... something like this rig with a beefy enough chopper could do it, probably they had to ditch it because they fucked up and didn't have a proper rig or big enough aircraft.

Funnily enough btw, aircraft also have lights on them... and at night from a distance, well all you can see are the lights.

Orbs my ass, but hey, some UFO buffs might show up and SPEND SOME MONEY! So this will certainly be milked for all it's worth... expect the "Abducted Orca coffee shop" to be open within the week, trust me I'm Irish... this is how it works.

I'd even say it's very likely that the aircraft activity wasn't reported as "UFOs" until after the whale was discovered.


Now, while I'm implying a chopper, there is the question of noise... which doesn't seem to get mentioned.

Because while I believe the whale thieves were terrestrial in origin (boring I know) I'm thinking black blimp rather than chopper...

Just thinking out loud... the real beauty of black blimps is it's all just mundane technology and some (actually quite basic) theatrics.

Anyway whatever the aircraft was, this was a job... a heist, a theft, an impressive one... in theory since it was obviously botched and it wasn't aliens (but I'm sure whoever it was is more than happy for you to decide it was little grey men, dig?)
