When people get sayings wrong, it irritates me to no end... I know that it should not matter, but that does not stop me from getting annoyed. For example:
Tow the line... The saying is 'Toe' the line, as in keep your toes on the line, or else you are 'out of line' and as such are screwing up...
The point is
mute, or It is a
mute point... The word is 'moot', not mute. The definition of 'moot': "Subject to debate, dispute, or uncertainty, and typically not admitting of a final decision", as opposed to the definition of 'mute': "Refraining from speech or temporarily speechless."
For all
intensive purposes... The correct saying is 'intents and purposes', and a basic grasp of the English language should make this self explanatory...
I
could care less... If you could care less about something, that means you care about it, so saying you could care less about something that you don't care about, is stupid! The correct saying is 'I couldn't care less'...
There are more, and I run across them all the time, but I don't feel like continuing at the moment, so will end this post here...
p.s. In before ::grammarnazi::
It is, to me, sad how fast people forget the FOUNDATIONS of our fine country! This country was built by an armed population capable of fending for themselves, and will be lost by couches full of potato-sheeple riding their 52" HD-LEDTV's into the orwellian sunset. :(
