Is "illegal" downloading really stealing in God's eyes? Will we be judged for it by God?
I guess we just about all know, even atheists, the command "Thou Shall Not Steal".

I'm interested to know how many feel, particularly those that call themselves Christians, whether or not "illegal" downloads, such as downloading music from pirate bay, is really considered stealing in God's eyes, or has satan taken over with his own defintion which he is imposing on the world which goes far beyond what stealing really means?

Since it could be argued that digital downloads are copying rather than stealing, can Christians feel free in Christ to download whatever?

I know of a preacher who guilt trips people into feeling they have stolen, and thereby will be held accountable to God, if they have downloaded "illegally". Is he right or wrong, not about the guilt-tripping obviously, but the technicality of stealing? What is the God's real definition of stealing?

I don't count it as stealing because it's just like the music on the radio/youtube? So does listening to the radio/youtube count as stealing?? I do count it as stealing if you go to the store and take the disk though. Plus if I really enjoy a song I will buy it.

This also applies for movies too. I always hate when you buy stuff and end up not liking it.

It's not stealing. It is copying. If I see your chair and then go out and make one exactly like it, have I stolen your chair?

I think the stealing argument is the music companies and artists are missing out on their income and royalties therefore you are depriving them of money by not actually buying the song, album, movie, game etc

Exactly! The Lord really convicted me of doing this, and that goes for CDs, books, etc. I'm in a field where I work with attorneys, and the vipers that they are, have finagled the "custom" in my area to where they don't have to pay me for a copy sale, and instead, they copy it for free, bypassing going through me. I figure I lose about $30,000+ annually because of this. I have cried my eyes out to God because of it. I would NEVER want to do the same thing to another. It's stealing, plain and simple.

If a company needs money I will pay for it. Otherwise why should I pay for a song that is mainstream and already made $45243524352435243 dollars? I don't think they will lose anything if I don't pay $1.

I think its more about what you download and fill your head with....

I think teh judgement will come harder for the creators of the bullshit... and how many people the bullshit has made infected with their shit....

If your infection is unable to be cured, then I guess its like the old spartan birth gig... you get thrown out... can't have infection in a healthy society....

Especially if we get rid of the cause of the infection... But basically, none of you have any idea what has been unleashed, and what they are going to do to all of us soon...

So blind, So sick, So fucking infected.....

But if that chair is my own unqiue design and I get money from selling them, aren't you stealing my design? You should have bought that chair from me because I created it and it's my business. It is my intellectual property.

By the same argument you should get ticketed or arrested if you borrow a friend's cd or lend a neighbor a DVD to watch for the evening...
..
That's why they're trying to push to get rid of discs altogether and have streaming services in everyone's home.....so that you will never physically own a copy of anything entertaining and will have to pay any time you want to watch it.....even if it is a movie you have grown up with....watched 10,000 times and can speak the dialogue with.
..
Pretty soon...that same movie will cost a fee any time you want to watch it.

I collect DVDs...and have backups of everything I own....I also have 10 dvd players I have in the closet for the day that DVD players go the way of VHS.
.
I started doing it for myself....but now I am doing it for my son...As of right now he has about 6,500 movies on DVD to inherit.

Re: Is "illegal" downloading really stealing in God's eyes? Will we be judged for it by God?
My problem is in the form of the "Upgrade Path"

Example: VHS, to DVD, to Blu-Ray, to the soon to be standardized 4K Ultra HD Video.

That and the Audio Formats:

Vinyl, to 8 Track, to Cassette Tape, to CD, to SACD, to DVD Audio, to DTS Surround Sound CD's, to the soon to be released Blu-Ray Hi-Fidelity.

----
My point is that I sink money into one format and then a newer format comes along...and I'm suppose to re buy that same product.

----
I believe the term was given:

"Planned Obsolescence"

Where does it mention computers in the bible. Did jesus teach man something useful like how to build a car or how to utilise electricity. Why not. If christians had had it their way europe would have remained in thedark ages.

I guess illegal downloaders can be added onto the internet troll facade.
