Re: Is "illegal" downloading really stealing in God's eyes? Will we be judged for it by God?
I think the stealing argument is the music companies and artists are missing out on their income and royalties therefore you are depriving them of money by not actually buying the song, album, movie, game etc
 Quoting: Flight 815

By the same argument you should get ticketed or arrested if you borrow a friend's cd or lend a neighbor a DVD to watch for the evening...
..
That's why they're trying to push to get rid of discs altogether and have streaming services in everyone's home.....so that you will never physically own a copy of anything entertaining and will have to pay any time you want to watch it.....even if it is a movie you have grown up with....watched 10,000 times and can speak the dialogue with.
..
Pretty soon...that same movie will cost a fee any time you want to watch it.

I collect DVDs...and have backups of everything I own....I also have 10 dvd players I have in the closet for the day that DVD players go the way of VHS.
.
I started doing it for myself....but now I am doing it for my son...As of right now he has about 6,500 movies on DVD to inherit.
 Quoting: Dace

So, your basically saying, "here son" have all the shit I filled my head with.... "its great"..... Your off ya head mate.... Don't you get it... all of that shit is infection, and they get us to infect every generation ourselves, full of their shit.... they don't need to physically hold us down and subject us to it... because some would defy them... and tell them to fuck off... but because we freely accept their lies, shit, and every other nonsensical media trick... Its like a cancer.... We are so sleepy and stupid, we don't know how harmful it is......

How dare you wish that on your Son, who has so much potential inside him, that you wish to fill his delicate mind with all of the shit that lives in yours....

It's not stealing. It is copying. If I see your chair and then go out and make one exactly like it, have I stolen your chair?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 42977167

But if that chair is my own unqiue design and I get money from selling them, aren't you stealing my design? You should have bought that chair from me because I created it and it's my business. It is my intellectual property.
 Quoting: Flight 815

You can't own an idea. Property exists because of scarcity. If all people had access to all resources in infinite quantities, there would be no property. Ideas are infinitely reproducible, therefore they have no scarcity and to count them as property just so you can secure an income is nothing but thuggery.

Not buying something is not stealing, if it was, every time you took a new car for a spin, and bought it back, you would be arrested for not buying it.

But you can make someones patent and use it yourself at home, the info is generally publicly available, this is not illegal or stealing.
But you can't sell it.
This is the same with movies/music, you are not removing the owners ability to sell it, you are just hearing/seeing it and not buying it.
This is not illegal or stealing.

Taking is considered copying and selling it, not simply using it.
There is a difference, at least thank God the law recognizes the difference anyway.

Nice argument. But in the same way I could forbid you to sing a song I made.
You maybe say now that you sing my song only private, not on a open concert for making money, and therefore you have the right to sing my song private, right?

Yes, and I am saying that all patents are thuggery. They are people protecting their profits at the point of a gun just the same as monopolies and cartels.

Let us use a more concrete example. Within this century we may have the technology similar to replicator technology on Star Trek. We may have nanobots and 3D printers that will allow people to download a file that would allow them to create anything they want. Scarcity would be all but eliminated. Would it be just for a small group of patent owners to restrict the use of this technology to secure their profits?

It's simple: If I have the right to sing a song at home of e.g. Justin Bieber (and I have that right) then I must have also the right to built a chair for my private use which I have seen in a shop.

In case a god exists, what do you think he likes more:
If some say "That is mine" or if all say "All is ours".

Re: Is "illegal" downloading really stealing in God's eyes? Will we be judged for it by God?
the question is if it's stealing in god's eyes
and i'm going back to where jesus fed the multitudes (5000 people) with 2 fishes and 5 loaves of bread. think of all the lost profits of the fish mongers and bakers that day. if copying and sharing files were bad in God's eyes, i am sure the son of God could have found a way to PAY for enough fish and bread for everyone, but he did not. he apparantly copied and distributed the loaves and fishes. and it was a miracle.
SO, in short, FILE SHARING IS MIRACULOUS.

WWJD? he would prolly be a top seeder on the bit torrents.

as far as the chair argument goes, if you ripped off someone else's patented design for a chair, and started selling them yourself, you'd be infringing on the petent owner's rights. however, if you are crafty, nothing stops you from building your own chair for personal use. you're only stealing profits from the record companies if you start printing your own Bieber CDs and selling them for profit.

It is stealing. They are selling it in the store and you are knowingly downloading it behind their backs for free. It is hard work to make music and I think people deserve a little retro for that work.. Same with movies, software etc.. someone had to make those things, and it would be hurtful to know that people are taking what they worked hard to make without asking..

Re: Is "illegal" downloading really stealing in God's eyes? Will we be judged for it by God?
My problem is in the form of the "Upgrade Path"

Example: VHS, to DVD, to Blu-Ray, to the soon to be standardized 4K Ultra HD Video.

That and the Audio Formats:

Vinyl, to 8 Track, to Cassette Tape, to CD, to SACD, to DVD Audio, to DTS Surround Sound CD's, to the soon to be released Blu-Ray Hi-Fidelity.

----
My point is that I sink money into one format and then a newer format comes along...and I'm suppose to re buy that same product.

----
I believe the term was given:

"Planned Obsolescence"

This is an issue with mobile downloads too. I upgrade my phone every year. Though i always stick with win phone , most of the apps i buy are not transferable to the new phone.

Jesus died for your sins. Feel free to do what you want. Take communion on Sunday and you are all set. King David had his mistresses husband killed on the battlefield and was forgiven his sin so downloading shit is nothing. To be sure confess that you downloaded whatever and no problem. Heaven awaits.

I highly doubt that when the 10 commandments were written they had illegally pirating digital material on there mind. They were more concerned about you stealing physical items or items with actual worth. An electrical signal is not worth very much from a logical perspective. Besides the 10 commandments are just good morals in the eyes of any self respecting human. Doesn't mean that a magician wrote it. It doesn't mean you will burn forever if you dont follow them. That is unless you actually believe in the "all powerfull magic man in the sky".

However that being said your not really stealing, it's more or less borrowing with no intention on giving back.

Some of just a few thousand stupid laws of illegalness.

Illegal to collect rain water.
Illegal to drop ice-cream on the ground.
Illegal to grow your own tomato.

List goes on. You think GOD give a fuck about that bullshit?

Oh by the way, if you do not bow down and let some department take your earned currency, you are stealing according to their minds. So you go to hell for being short a penny of YOUR tax :)
