Are you expected to pay for it? Yes. Did you? No. Then its stealing.

Got nothing to do with God.

It our spirit free will.

You take from him this lifetime..

.. you will try and repay him or her next lifetime.

Like you made a game and I download it for nothing and play it to the end and then I come again next lifetime and make a game and you download it and play for free.

It called the law of karma.

Re: Is "illegal" downloading really stealing in God's eyes? Will we be judged for it by God?
I guess we just about all know, even atheists, the command "Thou Shall Not Steal".

I'm interested to know how many feel, particularly those that call themselves Christians, whether or not "illegal" downloads, such as downloading music from pirate bay, is really considered stealing in God's eyes, or has satan taken over with his own defintion which he is imposing on the world which goes far beyond what stealing really means?

Since it could be argued that digital downloads are copying rather than stealing, can Christians feel free in Christ to download whatever?

I know of a preacher who guilt trips people into feeling they have stolen, and thereby will be held accountable to God, if they have downloaded "illegally". Is he right or wrong, not about the guilt-tripping obviously, but the technicality of stealing? What is the God's real definition of stealing?
 Quoting: Flight 815

You ask a very intelligent question and I won't disappoint you with it.

The key thing you are looking at here is copywrite laws.
The law goes that if someone writes a song, or someone invented something, that they own it. So they own the intellectual property of the song, or the invention when it's patented ect.

This is actually a man made law.

If I wrote a song and you sang it. Are you really stealing my song and is it morally theft? Not really, I havn't lost anything, I'm still free to sing my song, nothing was stolen because neither did I ultimately come up with it. The inspiration comes from God ultimately.

It is selfish to say that only I can sing a certain song, or only I can hold on to a certain video or invention I made. That is selfish and exploitative.

However, this is not the end of the issue. Because it takes work to create a movie, and it takes intelligence to wrote a song. There is real work time effort passion ect, put into this.

This is where the illusion comes into it. You will notice now how easy it is to copy things, movies, music. It's not a problem. But it's a problem for those that demand to be paid.

But this is the fundamental illusion of money itself. When you do gods work, your not suppose to be doing it for money.
Your not suppose to even be using money for anything!

The saying money is the root of all evil holds true. Money is an illusion and if money is created, it becomes the root of the problem.

The reason you do something is because you want to do it. THAT IS ALL. You don't do it because you think you have to, or because of material benifits. You don't do it because of a bank account. THATS NOT WHY GOD WANTED YOU TO LIVE.

God didn't want you to play money games, or to trade money. If you read in the bible Jesus is against the entire thing.

But the thing is if you have any money in your bank. What then? Who does it really belong to? The answer is whatever money you own, look on the note who it belongs to. The federal reserve, whoever printed it. It's there's not yours.

So then you may ask what shall I do? how shall I live?
Everything revolves around money yeah?

Well this is because everything is evil......
You can't by things, or trade or do anything without it.

It's so bad that you can go into a shopping center and say, I'm starving to death, can I please have some food or I'm going to die.

Guess what.....they won't give you anything.

You call that being human? You call that good? That's what money has done to our society.

So then the question becomes is it wrong to even use money?

At this stage you may have to use it. But you cannot let your life become ruled by it. Only use it as a needed evil in your life.

As soon as you can though, abolish money. Abolish in your life soon as you can. It may take a while to do that because it has a strong hold over everything.

However when the mark of the beast comes in. Your time is up. You will have to either worship satan with the chip, or finally give up money altogether...

So you can either make this a smooth transition, or a rough one. But understand that copy write laws are not Gods laws.

God did not create money.

If you download a pirated movie, the greater sin is the one that created the money system.

The actors have been paid for their acting, it's the crews job to pay for the production of the film. If they don't get their money back because of piracy, they are at fault for expecting money for doing something they should love doing. But the ones that entrapped them into a money system are also have a more heavy burden to share.

The individual who downloaded a movie or sees something online. There is not much sin in it at all, if any.

These days those that make the movie are already aware of the digital situation, if they personally demand money from you give it to them. But if you can avoid it do not download pirated movies.

Because there is those that would seek to capitalize of loopholes and entrap you into paying fines or putting you in prison. The company CNET is an example of this.

Best thing is stay away from anything to do with Evil.

God said 'Thou Shalt Not Steal' not 'Thou Shalt Not Make Near Exact Copies of Thy Neighbor's Property'.

Would God send you to Hell for making an exact replica of someone's table, chair, etc?

The establishment has decided that downloading is stealing, simply because they have encountered a conundrum with no clear answer, and making it illegal is their lazy way around it.

I think there is a major misconception here. If you are expected to 'pay' for movies these days, than that expectation is evil, because hollywood is not only corrupt, but so is the money system. It is all oppressive. We would like to make movies too, but they stop us with their hollywood empire. They don't help us.

Imagine if you owned a shop and it was the only shop in town, and you expected everyone to pay 100 times what it's worth, and not only that you don't allow anyone to make their own shop.

Is that fair?

Destroying the shop would be more fair for everyone, so everyone can produce their own things, rather than be dependent on someone greedy.

So destroying Hollywood at this stage, is fair because they are greedy.

If someone makes a movie these days. YOUR MOVIE IS DIGITAL IT IS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN POSSESS.

Just like an idea, a song, or a word, an invention, you cannot patent.

These ideas are man made and selfish to try and possess.

Just like the earth is not yours to divide up into different lands.

Why do you have to buy land to live on?

You were born here and that's evil to have to pay so much for a tiny bit of land. When the earth is so large and there is so much land here.

You may be expected to pay for it but that doesn't mean it's a realistic expectation.

In the end I recommend not watching hollywood movies as they are mostly full of garbage and nonsense.

If it is an emergency and you have to download something, download it.

Otherwise avoid downloading pirated stuff.

Basically use your common sense.

There is another issue here is well.

Slander.....

If you invent a song, and someone you don't like is using it against your purpose. They shouldn't do that. They need to respect your personal boundaries, and respect what you created.

They also need to give you acknowledgment for you creations, unless expressed by you otherwise.

If someone says they created something, and they didn't and it was you, and they stole your idea.

In that case, that is stealing. But that's entirely different to piracy!!!

Re: Is "illegal" downloading really stealing in God's eyes? Will we be judged for it by God?
Hollywood definitely needs to do something about their business practices, because some of them encourage the very piracy they seek to stop.

Why put region codes on DVDs? I know several American expats who brought their DVD players with them when they moved to Latin America, only to find out that they could not play any new videos bought or rented from the local shops.

Why make people in some parts of the world wait forever to see a movie that was released in the USA months ago? I don't understand why Hollywood execs think it's a good idea to release a movie in the USA in June, then wait until September to release the same movie in some other country. By the time the movie finally comes out elsewhere, it's been ruined for the rest of the world due to all the spoilers posted online by those who have already seen it.

Why refuse to allow those in some countries to view legal, streaming videos of shows and trailers? e.g. Official sites hosting "Doctor Who" videos won't allow people outside the UK to watch them, and there are also sites that stream Hollywood videos, which forbid viewers from outside the USA.

Those are just a few examples off the top of my head. I suppose if I gave it more thought, I could come up with several more.

When you look at it to me it just seems like those who are behind the movie making industry, are the same people behind the piracy industry!

It's as if they are looking for an excuse to shut down the internet. Or the old saying about funding your own enemies so no real enemy will be out of control.

reminds me of this video on it.

Re: Is "illegal" downloading really stealing in God's eyes? Will we be judged for it by God?
We arent stealing from them, they are stealing from us, music and tv should be mostly free, they can make their money from advertising etc within the movie, almost every movie i see these days has an Apple product conveniently placed to make sure everyone knows its an Apple, and dont tell me they dont pay for that shit.

The artists get stolen from when they sign up to any large corporation, they get like what? 5 cents from every album sale while the label keeps the rest.

Without us there is no them, so they only exist because we are to stupid to realise they are stealing from us, paying ridiculous amounts to go to a cinema or buy a album.

I wonder if back in those religious times and time of jesus if music was sold like this or if copying a certain strum on a guitar got you beheaded or crucified.

True, the stuff Hollywood's been putting out lately has been increasingly awful.

These days I'd rather just watch my DVDs of older movies and long ago cancelled TV shows.

I'm not a humorless prude or anything like that, but Hollywood's latest trends of lowbrow, toilet humor and beyond gratuitous nudity has gotten to be too much for me.

I've never been a big TV watcher, so the changes are more obvious to me.

Recently, my husband wanted me to watch a new show with him, so I did. It was an hour long show, and the number of sex scenes and scenes with topless women was insane. It's like every 5 minutes there was a bare breast or rear end on the screen. This was not a porno. It was a cable TV show that had a good plot, but for some reason they felt the need to include a lot of unnecessary nudity. I found it distracting, and it was so in-your-face, it made me uncomfortable. I can tolerate the occasional gratuitous sex scene or nudity, but this was ridiculous.

I can't even chalk this up as a one time thing. I've seen a couple of other similar instances. It appears to be a new trend... that and 12-year old toilet humor.

I'm pretty laid back and tolerant. If it's gotten bad enough to upset me, then it's really bad.

Oh yeah, here's another thing I've noticed.

What ever happened to 2-hour long movies?

They keep making them shorter and shorter. What are they down to now, about 80 to 90 minutes? I've seen TV show pilots longer than that.

I suppose the industry makes more money with shorter movies that don't cost as much to make and can be shown more often each day, but I don't see them charging less money to view them.

I've heard they're showing commercials in theaters these days, movies are 25 percent shorter than they used to be, and the crappy CGI that viewers are subjected to, has to have saved Hollywood a bundle on special effects budgets. They've cut quite a few corners, yet I don't see the price of movie tickets going down.
