Common practice well into the 20th century. About a 1/2 century ago, we made the huge mistake of rewarding dysfunctional antisocial behavior like having 6 kid out of wedlock with 6 different daddies, by giving out welfare, housing, healthcare,food,child care, etc. We have been paying a heavy price, and I don't just mean $, ever since.

The article said that these docs did not have "STATE" approval. The inmates probably signed consent forms and the docs figured that was all they needed to perform surgeries. And they're right. Except for sterilization. Then CA wants to consent if someone is in custody to insure and assure that the person is not being unduly influenced or forced to do it.

This is a procedural problem. Not a "plot" to sterilize these women without their knowledge and consent! Gawd, can't people read to the end of a news items and then UNDERSTAND what is and is not being said!!

Seriously ,where has the empathy gone?!Not everyone is who goes to prison is in there because of violence! Most people in CA are locked up for pot! So by this logic everyone no matter what the charge as soon as they're convicted should be sterilized, leaving no room for redemption

He talks about the twins being separated at birth and the most in common that were found about them were "they flushed the toilet before and after using it" or something along those lines. Nothing conclusive was found other than that the environment you grow up in is what makes you behave one way or another and even those effects aren't permanent.

A test on separated twins is mute anyway because it's been found that twin FETUSES separated in the first trimester with one put into a different mother showed massive differences but still showed attributes that coincided with the environment the mother was living in.

It's the environment you grow up in, even as you are still in your mother's womb, that determines your genetics and nothing else. Look up the study of Epigenetics.

I want you to show me these studies that show behavior is genetic, you need to back up what you claim. Any study that shows what you claim will be outdated. We've been conducting better experiments since the 1940s...

I think this should be done to both male and female inmates if they have committed a violent crime (including illegal possession of a firearm pursuant to the second amendment and loss of rights that comes with being a convicted felon, prior to reinstatement of rights); a crime of negligence towards the elderly, disabled, or children;; on 2nd conviction of any of the following: robbery, burglary, larceny, theft of 1000$ or more in value (adjusted for valuation in year 2000 US dollars), selling or in knowing possession of stolen property.

During 2007, a total of 1,180,469 persons on parole were at-risk of re-incarceration. This includes persons under parole supervision on January 1 or those entering parole during the year. Of these parolees, about 16% were returned to incarceration in 2007.
Among nearly 300,000 prisoners released in 15 states in 1994, 67.5% were rearrested within 3 years. A study of prisoners released in 1983 estimated 62.5%.
Of the 272,111 persons released from prisons in 15 states in 1994, an estimated 67.5% were rearrested for a felony or serious misdemeanor within 3 years, 46.9% were reconvicted, and 25.4% resentenced to prison for a new crime.
These offenders had accumulated 4.1 million arrest charges before their most recent imprisonment and another 744,000 charges within 3 years of release.
Released prisoners with the highest rearrest rates were robbers (70.2%), burglars (74.0%), larcenists (74.6%), motor vehicle thieves (78.8%), those in prison for possessing or selling stolen property (77.4%), and those in prison for possessing, using, or selling illegal weapons (70.2%).

Depending on their crimes of course. Our prisons are filled to the brim with those who haven't actually committed a real crime. That assid, some of the people in them places should be put down like animals and are allowed to live. I'd sterilize everyone single one of them, put them in a medically induced coma and give their organs to people that deserve life.

Roundup from Monsanto sterilizes and feminizes men.

I think this should be tubal ligations should be mandatory for any pregnant prisoner who already has at least one other child, and vasectomies should be mandatory for male prisoners who have at least one child.

It is far more likely for children on welfare to continue to be on welfare as adults, and for children of criminals to become criminals themselves.

I am sick to death of supporting both criminals and people who CAN find jobs and are able to work but don't.
