Those people in ancient times would have had to have really understood genetics and all that, recessive traits. They were masters of breeding animals. Supposedly this was all revealed to us by Gregor Mendel and Charles Darwin, only in recent times. Truth is these people in the 'dark ages' were far wiser than the godless people of today.
