If he's using a big email provider like gmail or whatever, it will be difficult to trace and the provider won't give you any details unless there's criminality involved, in which case you can go report it to "the authorities".

If he's using an account on a domain he owns, you can try a whois lookup to get more info on that domain.

If he's using Tormail you're basically screwed.

Someone may have figured out a way to install a keystroke logger on your computer. It only takes about ten minutes to download and install, and there is nothing to tell the computer user there is anything amiss.

With a keystroke logger, the other person can remotely view EVERY single letter and word you type, and it does screen captures of every webpage you visit, it also collects all your passwords as you use them.

If this is what has happened you will need a professional to find and remove it. Make sure you don't utilize the same computer person you used last time, as that could be the person who installed it in the first place. Or it could be an old boyfriend. Or jealous housekeeper or former psycho roommate.

Thanks for the advice but I'm not going to meet them in person. I'll just set up a meeting and park well away from their view just so I can see who it is,hopefully nothing more than ex or a lame friend who thought it would be a funny prank.

Low chances if he wasn't dumb enough to enter his real data while registering the adress. Data-mining could help but if he uses this adress only for you this will not work.
Social-engineering could also help: Spread an invented detail about you to one or few persons in your circle of acquaintances to see if that detail comes up in a new mail (but if he is a completely stranger to you this will also not work).

yeah and don't just search the email, search whatever's before the @ symbol bc they might use that as a username somewhere. unless they just created that email to stalk you.
