growing epidemic of thyroid disease
[link to www.wakingtimes.com]

It was recently reported that the radioactive fallout in Japan during 2011 has now caused thyroid disease in the farthest corners of the world. Children born in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washing-ton within one to sixteen weeks after the nuclear accident in Japan were 28% more likely to suffer from congenital hypothyroidism than in the preceding year.

There is also a dramatic increase in the rates of thyroid cancer, which is the fastest growing cancer in North America today. In 2010, the American Cancer Society reported 45,000 new cases. They now predict that in 2013 there will be about 60,220 new cases of thyroid cancer, and this number is expected to grow rapidly in the next decade.

What are the symptoms? I have had a lump on the side of my throat for a year now. No health insurance so I guess I'm screwed.

Re: growing epidemic of thyroid disease
I have heard more and more people here in WA with thyroid issues, or fatigue, hair loss, sore muscles (all symptoms of hypothyroidism, amongst many)...and docs here are still under-diagnosing.

I have no doubt this is related to Japan/nuclear.

Make sure you have a doc run the Free T4 and Free T3. Most docs rely on the TSH and this only tells the picture of the pituitary.

Be proactive!

If you're serious (or not for that matter), I would do a little research and find what natural cure there is for enlarged thyroid. My Dad died of thyroid cancer in '76. He was 62. I was pretty young but I remember the doctors thought they could cut out the tumor. fucking idiots. The thyroid is embedded in the neck muscles and very difficult to get at. The surgery aggravated it and made it worse. Cobalt treatment didn't help much at that point, maybe gave him 3 months extra. My Mom should have sued for malpractice, but you just didn't do that in those days.

It takes a pretty high dose of radiation to get the symptoms you are describing; I would also look at other things local. Not saying it can’t happen but unlikely.

I was diagnosed in the summer of 2011 with Hashimltos thyroiditis. Never even knew what it was. I had hair loss all over my head, massive anxiety, achy joints and fatigue. I live in Western Washington. I am almost positive it was caused by Fuku. I am fit, trim and eat right, no family history of this disease in my family. It Fuc@ing Sucks.

People here have been complaining of these symptoms in the last two years...from Western to Eastern WA, I have heard complaints. I would consider the "locality" of the possibility, however, it's all over. Obviously, I am no one to say what is fact, in regards to increase in thyroid issues on the west coast...however, I have had friends/family/acquaintance's dx'd with this in the last two years. Seems to be an influx. Japan or not Japan? 1dunno1

This is just a thought, and I am by no means an expert, but it sounds like you are getting radiation internally. IE. Eating or drinking contaminated food? Do you and your friends/ acquaintance's have anything in common? A little bit (low dose) over a long period of time taken internally could cause the symptoms you are describing. Look for a common factor. Like I said just a thought.

Hope things get better for you and friends!hfhf

They've taken iodine off the shelves because meth heads use it to make illegal drugsm. They are also selling less iodized salt and people are consuming less salt. Our ground has been farmed too long, so the iodine has all leached out.

It's not the radiation, it's the lack of iodine in our diets!!!

I;ll bet your dad did not die of thyroid cancer. Look at his death certificate and see what it says. I have yet to see a death certificate of someone that had cancer and died where it said that they died of cancer.

Sorry to hear this. Hope you are getting treatment. I've had the aching joints and fatigue. Sometimes my muscles just hurt if I touch them. No hair loss. I think I might have fibromyalgia, though. Also have edema all over, esp. in the legs and feet. very tired, have a hard time concentrating. Getting ready to move away from the ol' Kentucky, where I see from the map there was a lot of fallout from Fuku. Good luck, Martin.hf

That my friend is another possibility! I didn’t know lack of iodine could case hair loss? Also in just one area, here in SD all is well, not a single symptom that has been described in this thread.

Damed if this don’t sound like Alfa or Beta radiation taken internally, maybe not Japan but Hanford?

Not trying to scare anyone just looking at possibilities and a common factor.

God bless and take care! hfhfhf

The radiation ain't helping, but the lack of iodine in people's diets is a big cause of lots of health problems that cascade out from its deficiency in the body.

See if you can buy lots of clean kelp, it will have iodine in it, but good luck with that one these days.

Many in the 50-65 ish range are now having thyroid issues, and after a bit of research, I do think, back then, when
going to a dentist, they blasted kids with high radiation for the xrays for teeth,,,,,
