Obama Given Native American Name--Walking Eagle--Funny

Yup. Those people need to get over it. That was a long time ago. Not my fault that I was born in Texas.

Having personally gone through a Pequot Naming Ceremony, and having seen personally Navajo, Iroquois, Zuni, Apache, Aztec, and Acoma naming ceremonies, I can tell you that a lot of the symbology behind the words is quite similar between the radically different groups.

Birds, in general, are symbols of peace, experience, and natural freedom. However, placing a bird, ANY BIRD, as "walking", indicates the opposite.

One could translate "Walking Eagle", to "One who breeds war and confinement".

By contrast, my name is "Soaring Hawk", translated as "One whose observations bring freedom".

I'm an inquisitive little bastard, and it has helped me shape my world view drastically.

I would have named him Standing Rat.

I've got to address the issue of how it is the Native Americans arrive here.

They did not ALL cross the Bering Straight. Yes, there were a few, but to understand the Native American people (and you can't really classify them into a single group as their creation stories differ widely, and many of the groups don't share ANY genetic markers with the other tribes.

For instance,

Navajo's claim to have emerged from a subterranean city underneath what is no Shiprock, NM. Oddly enough, "Navajo" in Greek translates to "Shipwreck".

The Osage's traveled from the islands of the South Pacific, walked across the entirety of North America, before turning around and settling in what is now Oklahoma, where they determined (accurately) was the geographic center of the continent.

The Zuni's were engineered by an extraterrestrial race that they still communicate with every year in a ceremony they call Shalako. If you travel to their Mesa during Shalako, you can see lights emerge in the sky, travel to their Mesa, hover, land, and take off back into the sky. I have seen this personally.

The Chippewa traveled from Northern Europe, up the St. Lawrence River in main and capsized over Niagara falls, eventually washing them into the Great Lakes where the survivors made it to land and began the tribe.
