Quoting: Dr. Astro [link to legault.perso.sfr.fr] Thierry Legault is perhaps the world's foremost satellite astrophotographer, though he's usually focused on spacecraft like ISS, and previously captured some of the best views of the shuttle in orbit ever seen by an observer on the ground. This month, however, he focused on our natural satellite, the moon. He was able to detect and record the crescent at new moon on July 8th, when the moon was only about 0.00000068% full according to my calculations. Quite the amazing accomplishment. COOL.. I'm kind of wondering if he deliberately chose this particular month to poke the Muslims (obviously the dynamics of the moon's orbit also played a role, but he could have chosen to do it on any other occasion where the same dynamics were available)... from his page... "This New Moon marks the 2013 Muslim's Ramadan." Bwahahaha, I love it. You can't even talk about astronomy without making it into a decisive attack. Eat shit, cocksucker At least you find my attacks to be decisive. Thanks! |

Proves you're here just to be a SHILL and your threads are only cover for your real purpose. DOUCHE! |

SO it must be intentionally buggy as always... Intentionally buggy? Nope. I had an issue with the sun-moon angular separation formula, but I've worked it out now. It had nothing to do with calculating the % of the moon's illumination or its appearance (location, apparent orientation) though. what about that moon even on north pole? Quoting: DuckyWhat about it? At the north pole your altitude-azimuth view would effectively be like a polar aligned view, so you could hypothetically see the "horizontal moon" during new moons like this one (which was shot from a polar aligned perspective): [link to legault.perso.sfr.fr] BUT it would naturally require you to do what Legault did in order to capture it, and you would at least need a safe separation of a few degrees between the moon and sun in the sky. It could hypothetically be done though, Legault proved it. Last Edited by Astromut on 07/23/2013 04:10 PM |
