Re: I just ate a whole bag of spinach and a whole tomato. Ask me a question.
Yes, please post your grandma's cabbage roll recipe!
 Quoting: WinterWx

Ok, I'll post the pictures when I make it this weekend but here's the recipe.

Freeze the head of cabbage at least 24 hours before putting it in a big pot of water to boil. I don't know why it has to be frozen, that's just what my grandma told me to do.

While the cabbage is boiling, brown 1 1/2 pounds ground beef, that's about how much it will take to fill all the leaves in the cabbage. I usually saute an onion first, my grandmother did that with most the meals she prepared. After the beef or turkey is brown, add seasoning, salt pepper, paprika. Also add a 1/4 cup dry rice, or more if you don't have enough ground meat, it's mainly a filler but I like the texture it adds to the meal. I also add some sauerkraut, 1/2 the jar in the mix. I don't drain the fat from the beef either, it's needed for the baking. After that's all done, start peeling the leafs off the cabbage, they will be hot so just do a couple and fill a few while it cools. I can put them all in a 9x12 glass baking dish. After they are all tightly squeezed into the baking dish, I put the rest of the kraut on top and what ever juice is left over from the ground meat pan. I put it in the oven on 350 for 40 minutes, covered with foil. Then I take the foil off for 10-15 minutes to brown the top. That's it.
 Quoting: nah

Uh, since I don't use measurements the amounts I posted were different from what I used today. I used 2.4 pounds ground beef and almost 1/2 cup rice.

I put the cabbage on to boil first.
:boil:

Put the lid on so I could show off my bad ass Fissler pots and pans. Is this what facebook feels like because I've never had an account and showing off shit is fun!
:lid:

I sauteed onions and put them on the side before I prepared the ground meat.
:onion:

I use an ice cream scooper to fill the rolls.
:fill:

I didn't have any filling left over and took a pic before I put some kraut on top because it looks prettier this way.
:croll:

They have been in the oven for 40 minutes already but I set the timer for another 40 till my husband gets home.

I have a culinary question for you cooking geniuses :)

I have a lo mein recipe that calls for 'two inches' of grated fresh ginger root, but I don't have any. I do have powdered ginger however. Can I substitute the powdered for the fresh? I'm thinking I have to cut way back since it's powdered. What do you guys think?

I would say season to taste.
The powdered ginger has a lot less kick than fresh ginger root (less zinnng!) but you don't want to overpower it with that flavor either. It will have a different taste than the fresh but I'm sure it will still be good.

Watermelon rinds, no flesh, a little pineapple and a couple blueberries to get rid of the ugly green chlorophyll color.

How did you make it? My husband always makes strawberry mango smoothies with some gaining powder, he makes me drink it with him but I think it has too many calories for me so I bribe my kids to drink it.

He wanted me to post his quick and easy healthy midnight snack. It's an open face omelet with ranch on top, only thing it's missing is green olives. It has broccoli, onions, peppers, parmesan and rice. It's sooo good he made me one the other day.

they're actually very good for you. they pretty much have the same consistency of strawberry seeds so you can drink them, just crunch them up in your mouth. they're very fine. they kinda taste like ground flaxseed.

I grind flaxseed for cookies but I don't feed it to my husband, it produces estrogen. I thought I was making them gluten free but I ground up some oatmeal and threw it in the mix! Duh, I'm kinda dumb when it comes to knowing some things.

Morning Star makes tasty veggie chicken sandwiches. That was all my oldest daughter would eat in her packed lunches for school every day for years! We used to live across the street from one of their manufacturing places and it all started with their corn dogs. We used to watch sailor moon together and we'd sing, "everybody loves corn dog's" to the SM tune while we walked across the street to buy some.
